So true .. wow. I decanted the entire bottle and left the top off. it seriously cools off in many ways. The spice and overly woody leather oaky... I found it very fruity dark

Absolutely agree on what you said. An interesting wine for laying down, even 25 years after release on excellent vintages. Way more affordable and it has a better quality/price ratio than its big brother "Sassicaia". I usually prefer the second wine of Ornellaia (Serre Nuove) rather than the Guidalberto. But nontheless a very intriguing and fun bottle to share. Cheers from Italy👍

Grazie. I agree that the Serre Nuove is another great second wine from a great producer.

Hat looks good on ya man wouldn’t have known you weren’t a hat guy 😅 but this one wine here is my favorite wine and Chilean Wines are by far my favorite wines. I first came across the Meritage blend purchasing their Cab Sav at Costco back in 2012 and the 2013 bottle is exquisite and super tasty!

Thanks for this, guys. Your conclusions jive with my own. I have a bunch of 17/18s lurking around that I'm slowly starting to make my way through on Michael's principle that it's better to go early than late. In general I've found that ON pinot, while it does age, aging knocks the sharp edges off things rather than developing the tertiary flavours. And that i think is one of the big differences between the ageability of ON vs Burgundy. However, youthful ON Pinot is, for my money, a better bet than the same price point from Burgundy. I recall loving that 2015 Churchside, btw. Recently did the 18 Stanners regular bottling and Narrow Rows back-to-back. Both were still terrific; the NR got better with every mouthful and I was melancholic when it was done.

Sounds like a wine I'd like! I have no problem with the masculine/feminine wine description.... it kind of sums up without a lot of words what to expect from the wine. I'm female, if that makes a difference. I do prefer bigger, masculine reds but it also depends on what it's being paired with. My vote is to keep the masculine/feminine term.... :)

Canadian wine. I have the fondest memories of trying Canadian (BC) wines (for the first time ever) during a trip up to Victoria and Vancouver back in 2019. My wife and I were blown away by the quality. Absolutely delicious. Mainly Bordeaux style wines and some Rhone and Spanish varietals (and Portuguese if memory serves right), but they were absolutely incredible. I live in San Diego, CA, and long to try Canadian red wines again someday.

Depends where you live. If you are in Ontario, Canada (where I am) they do not have an agent, so it is sadly not available.

Not only does Luca Maroni score wines consistently in the high 90's, they're often sub $20 wines. Something doesn't add up. Not that price is always an indicator of quality, but come on, multiple sub $20 wines scored in the high 90's...I don't think so.

Michael, I still have one 2013 Compendium left to open this year. If you are coming down to this way I will gladly hold it and even introduce you to the wineries of Lake Erie South Shore.

I like the fact that you are giving credibility to a great Canadian winery and for the record I have not tried the 2018. I can only tell you that I was at Mission Hill in 2020 and had the pleasure of trying their top wines, yes especially the Legacy Collection. The 2016 Occulus was my least favorite and tried it again a year later with no different result. I was promised that the 2018 would change my mind so will open that bottle later this year. The 2016 Quatrain wasn't a total disappointment but had nothing on Compendium which continues to be my favorite. The 2013 and 2016 should have been wines of the year, they are that good.

A few of my earlier versions of these wines I held on to for too long - thinking they would age better than they did. But I think they now have a better handle on what they are doing. 7-8 years should be the sweet spot for these (from release)

Introduced to Bandol over 30 years ago at a time that I was experimenting with different wines from unique countries and terroirs. Very quickly became one of my favorite wines and still is to this day. Unfortunately it was easier to come across a Bandol back then.

2020 was a stellar vintage in Ontario for red wines, right up there with 07, 10, 12 and 16. That is certainly exemplified in the Merlot showcased in the video. In Ontario, vintage variation is a harsh reality for winemakers and certain varieties (like thicker skinned Bordeaux grapes that require longer hang times) are not going to do well every year. Another important consideration is mezo and micro climate. Bordeaux varieties and Syrah are challenged to ripen in the cooler escarpment benchlands of Niagara and right along the Lakeshore, but can do pretty well in the warmer sub-appellations of Four Mile Creek and St. David's Bench. I know that that's a lot of nuance to include in a 2 minute video, sorry for getting geeky 😊
