Why cover the brass snare? Dupid.
@Jan.Urbanc6 ай бұрын
the brass was pickled and not really nice....anyway, I took away the foil two years later and sold a complete drum set with it. The complete set`s wrapping was just a trial how it looks like without the gold color (Batman style). I still have my aluminum snare, which I prefer over the brass one since I prefer the funky style. For me, one snare drum is enough today. Anyway, I understand your comment 😀

Hi, thanx for sharing your design process. How did you wrap the rings of the base drum. I mean the rings which span the drumheads - I guess these are called drum tension hoopes - one at the front and one ring at the back. They seem to be the most difficult part. Mine do not have any metall and are plain wood.
@groovet11352 жыл бұрын
Hi Sebastian, right, the ring is a bit tricky. I took several pieces (i.e. 10cm)and just overlapped them. You won`t see the overlapping so much and it sticks even to bare wood. No problem. Cut it at the back side, where it push against the head. It can stay blank there because you don`t see it. I hope, I could help ?!

I've never wrapped any drums, but I did sand and paint one of my original kits years ago.It turned out pretty amazing! I need to redo that kit again. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to repaint it, or possibly wrap it with a Carbon Fiber Car wrap??? I picked up a 4 piece kit for $20, so I could remove the old beat up wrap, and re-wrap it for practice. And then once I learn how to do it properly, I will give the set to a kid, or a beginner drummer!! Anyway, I've been doing handyman stuff my whole life, so I'm hoping that I can do this?? I enjoy taking drums that have been neglected, and restoring them, even if it's just cleaning, polishing up the hoops, and putting new heads on and making it sound awesome!! Thanks for the video, and get those hoops shinier on that kit!! Lol!

@janurbanc70243 жыл бұрын
Hi Ronald,, at that time we had an analog mixer with each channel`s direct out. We mixed with the analog mixer and recorded with the Zoom. Anyway, you could also do the live mix simulataneously, but there are just 8 channels. In record modus, you can combined two Zoom R16. Nowadays it is much more convinient by just using i.e. a Soundcraft UI24R.....mixing and recording to USB with 24 channels ;o)

Did it affect the sound any? I’m thinking about doing this
@Jan.Urbanc4 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, no. But even if there would be a bit of influence, the drum head, the tuning and the kind of playing (sticks, volume/loudness in the groove or fill) makes >95% of the deal. Again, this is my opinion. Since my drums are wrapped, I have much more fun to play, because they have the color I wanted. If once my taste will change, I will change the wrap again ;o) By the way, the snare, wrapped in this video, is just used with my second set (also wrapped) in the other band practise room. The brass was in a quite bad condition. Now it looks beautiful. I like a quite dry sound of the set. If you like an open sound, the influence of a thicker layer of wrap (additional to the original) could end in a bit less of vibration of the tom-wood-material ??! ...but what it means in consequence ? ... may be a more damped sound, less tone ? The original wrap is much thicker than the added wrap. I assume, there shouldn`t be an noticable sound-influence at all.

@myscionxa054 жыл бұрын
I have left mine on for a smoother installation. Also it makes it easier to remove and reapply new wrap down the road.
@stkk71864 жыл бұрын
Made it last weekend and I recommend to leave the original wrap on the shell. Because car foil is much thinner than drum foil and if you have any bumps they will press through the car foil. Anyway, if your drum foil is already too damaged, you will have the same trouble.
@LS67NOVA3 жыл бұрын
@@stkk7186 Any issue with bubbling when tightening down the lugs? Was your original wrap glued on all the way around or just at the seams? From what I've heard, it's fine to use car vinyl wrap over the original drum wrap if it was originally glued all the way around. If it's only glued at the seams, then I've heard it doesn't work right. But regardless of the original wrap method, they say auto wrap can bubble when tightening down the lugs. Did you have that issue?
@stkk71863 жыл бұрын
@@LS67NOVA No, I did not experience that issue. But now after a few months I can tell that the foil I used was pretty unforgivable. I have several wrinkles due to thermal movement that I mostly could get rid by using a hair dryer. Also the foil set itself a bit down so smaller scratches and marks are now visible. This is an issue I can't fix. Maybe it's also good to know that I used a frosted finish. I guess a glossy finish could be a bit more forgiving.
@LS67NOVA3 жыл бұрын
@@stkk7186 okay thank you for the reply. I'm looking at using the new 2080 series in a glossy metallic black so I'm wondering if some of those issues might be alleviated with the newer version.

Does this change the sound?
@janurbanc70245 жыл бұрын
the set still sounds great... I don`t think, there is a negative influence - but I like a dry sound and thus it may be different for "singing" toms or bass drum. My opinion: The sound of the drum is more depending on the drum head, tuning - and how you play it. This set, Tama Superstar has cast rims. The tuning is very easy and the contact area of the wood shell is still the same. The new surface might have a kind of a damping effect, which I never noticed because the heads have dampers, too ;o)
