Ireland actually produces the most potatoes in the world, but they eat them all.
@Arend-q8p16 сағат бұрын
No. China is currently the world's #1 Potato producer. India is #2, and the US is #3. Russia is a close #4. Ireland's annual Potato production is only about 350,000 tons, so they are not even in the top 10 Potato PRODUCERS. There are more profitable and reliable alternatives for Irish farmers, who still face the vagaries of climate that also contributed to the Potato Blight in years past. You likely overlooked this because both China and India export little of their Potato production, which is intended to improve food security by augmenting more traditional carb sources such as Wheat and Rice. India is currently the world's #1 Rice exporter, even though Delhi briefly reduced Rice exports over concerns of food security issues. Also, although the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium are top Potato exporters, they do not rely on greenhouse cultivation (which is unsuitable for Potatoes and cereal grains) as they do with Tomatoes, Cucumbers, and Peppers.

Great statistic showing work, but Kenia and Iceland have 100% renewables, Norway is close to that and California far better than the US-average what can't be seen at such statistics. All needs to be seen also towards number of people living in a country, even if at least the total number is important for the planet. We see that China has 5 times more people than the USA and 3 times more renewables. While the total emission of China growed faster than renewables this might have changes or will change soon, even if Chinas planning goes to be balanced at zero with 2060 far later than all other industry states try to reach.

This info is visible during the entire 8,5 minutes of the video yet based on the comments, it seems many people didn't notice...

When the first place is equal to the sum of the second and third places, a term is born, overcapacity.
@motherlandbot6837Күн бұрын
If Hong Kong SAR exports are added to China's exports, that "overcapacity" is even more impressive (or alarming). Unlike Singapore, which still has a diverse high end manufacturing as well as services based economy, Hong Kong shifted away from manufacturing products many decades ago. I'm old enough (late 70s) to remember when most childrens' toys sold in NA were made in Hong Kong and Japan. Today, they are nearly all made in China (along with almost everything else), and Shenzhen has replaced much of Hong Kong's role as an East Asian financial services center, as other port facilities along the Pearl River have gradually displaced Hong Kong's role as an export facility.

Lets do gdp per capita. How much a person actually produce in that country. China and india: 1.4 billion population each. We have about 8 billion on the Earth. Between the two countries, it is over 1/3. They also take up about 1/3 of total world gdp. These countries' multiplier is basically 1, less for India, where the USA and Japan have much better multipliers. Why would THAT be?

Because of lack of infrastructure in the Bakken and Permian Basin formations, most of the natural gas is burned, or flared off at the well head. In the US, a record amount of natural gas was released or burned at oil-and-gas well sites last year. The annual reported volume of natural gas that is vented or flared in the United States declined to 0.5% of gross withdrawals in 2023. Scientists have found 6,292 flares in the U.S., burning off 10.65 billion cubic meters of natural gas.

I think it is interesting to see the total of all renewables compared with just coal. China in 2023 hit 5753 TWh from coal and 2894 TWh for all renewables sources. I would be interested to know if the renewables in the Gobi desert are being used, or if the figures are just generated power that may be just wasted. There are some videos on the problems with transmission lines to get the solar power in the Gobi desert to the factories where it can be used, and competition with existing local coal generators. I do think these stats are really interesting and well presented. The total world generated power will be increasing over time, and I think it will be literally world changing - hopefully in a good way. We already have megaprojects, perhaps we are on our way to creating a Dyson Sphere, or a ringworld - or something else from science fiction;-)
