@@gosu_bg5818not sure it is to be expected for an oncoming car to force their way thru & the car in front of me to stop suddenly. Of course yes I could have been more defensive minded & slowed right down & left more space, but then it's easy to be critical after the event. As it is, this wasn't even an event really, I only posted it as I was amused to lock the rear wheel up, at slow speed, on a scooter 🤷🏻‍♂️😆

A bridleway isn't a byway, it's a bridleway. Bridleways: a highway over which the public has a right of way on foot, horseback and on a pedal cycle (including mountain-bikes). There may also be a right to drive animals along a bridleway. Restricted Byways: a highway over which the public is entitled to travel on foot, horseback and with non-mechanically propelled vehicles (such as pedal cycles and horse-drawn vehicles). There may also be a right to drive animals along a restricted byway Byways Open to All Traffic (BOATS): a highway over which the public is entitled to travel on foot, horseback or pedal cycle and by wheeled vehicles of all kinds, including mechanically propelled vehicles, but which is used by the public mainly for walking or for riding. For example, a ‘green lane’ is a BOAT. A bridleway shows a route you can use if you are travelling on foot, by wheelchair (including powered wheelchairs and mobility scooters), by bike (including recumbent bikes and tricycles) or by horse. *i.e., Not motor vehicles.* You can use a byway or B.O.A.T. (byway open to all traffic) if you are travelling by any means we have already discussed, or if you are riding a motorbike or driving a car. So is this bridleway a bridleway or a byway? Because the sign clearly says "Public bridleway" which means no motorbikes. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@andyjonc
@andyjonc 9 ай бұрын
The confusion comes from a badly positioned sign post. At the beginning where I show it saying "bridleway" it should actually say "leads to bridleway" as further up that road, if you go straight on it is a bridleway. Turn left as I did however, and it is a byway 👍🏻

@andyjonc
@andyjonc Жыл бұрын
Hi Terry, I have just fitted a VSysto front & rear camera setup. The front camera is mounted on the top of the headlight on my CRF300L. I have previously used a helmet mounted Drift XL, which is much better from an image stabilisation POV (the VSysto picks up all vibrations from the bike) but it is also much nicer not having to worry about hitting the camera on a tree branch!
@andyjonc

Both entitled to your opinions. I was always taught that you waited until clear to pull out & join another road. What if my indicator had been accidentally left on and I'd carried straight forward, collision. Pretty sure under highway code the car would have been found at fault as he should not have pulled out until road was clear
@Tricyklist
@Tricyklist Жыл бұрын
Disagree. Impossible in today's traffic. The rule is that you should not cause another vehicle to change speed or direction as a result of your own driving behaviour. Courtesy on the road costs nothing but smiles.
@peterbeck-rasmussen8514
@peterbeck-rasmussen8514 Жыл бұрын
Agree with the previous commenter - you are indicating well ahead of time that you will be turning right and you are slowing down. In my opnion the driver in the blue car has every right to pull out, as you have given him every indication of your intentions. Flashing your front light, honking, waving your arms or sticking out your tongue is not a requirement :-D
@Tricyklist
@Tricyklist Жыл бұрын
Disagree. Your early indication and slowing was the only invitation any driver needed. One might even argue that it was polite of them to give you more room to turn at the junction. Just as it was polite of you to give the driver plenty of warning to pull out safely. The roads are far too busy to demand that traffic obeys your unspoken set of rules.

I see this all the time all over west London often blocking the only lane available for cars going in either direction they are normally drivers who haven't been in the country very long. If you tell them off you will get abused. it is out of control and dangerous.

It was pretty dangerous to be pulling the hose across the road like that, the guy could have pulled it along the ground to be on the safe side, but there's no excuse for being a bit thick. We all take innocent wrong turns from time to time, and it cant be helped when the locals break the byway signs down on purpose. I always use an os map printout when riding new trails and a printout of any up to date council guidance note that says I can ride a motorbike there, just to have proof if anyone challenges me over my legal right to be there.

For what reason? If talking about pedestrian safety then the same logic could say that people should never cross a busy road. It's all about being safe & aware of other road (and yes this is legally defined as a road) users

This is a similar problem that I am finding in the states. There are a lot of these bicycle rail trails around. I don't understand why motorcycles aren't allowed on them. Especially when they are used by snow mobiles in the winter. For example, I was doing a bit of touring and I came up to a four lane divided highway that connects Madison Wisconsin and Green Bay. Busy as hell and I'm not a very experienced rider, that was my first year on a motorcycle. Well there is a rail trail that basically parallels this four lane highway and the Horicon marsh is to the south. Being a weekday and a little crappy out, I could bet there wasn't more than two people on this rail trail. Rather than be daring and ride on the four lane or chance riding the rail trail, I basically back tracked until some decent secondary roads were available.

That's not a cycle lane, it's a footpath that the council added some paint to so they can say they made a cycle path. If you cycle at any reasonable sort of speed these mixed lanes are a nightmare and not very safe for either cyclists or pedestrians. Given the size of the bike rig and the risk to pedestrians I think they were in the right place moving at a good pace - I also can't see all this traffic you seem to think they were holding up, everything was flowing around it no problem.
@andyjonc
@andyjonc Жыл бұрын
If it has a picture of a bicycle it's a cycle lane. That's what the govt decreed who are we to argue. The traffic was in front of me and behind me (sorry I don't have a rear facing camera to show it) They'll always be an argument as to where bicycles should travel, my point was simply that where there is a dedicated lane then it should be used. I take on board your comment regarding pedestrians but I saw none during this experience, only road users held up by a slow moving bicycle-rig (as you call it)
