Tomcats. 15 or 7.5ips? Any NR like Dolby Sr or dbx2? I remember RKO NTA used to cart their Mx at 15ips. They also used Tomcats.

Hello to you from New York on the East Coast. When is National Radio Day? Your radio stations look nice, even though your camera shots were rapid. I type to you as an audiophile, because I appreciate [high-quality] sound equipment.

First we are told at 1:50 that the jock needs to wear headphones to avoid feedback when the mic is open, then at 10:00 we see the pair of them faking the start of a morning show hour with no headphones. Best part of KOST-FM were the JAM jingles !

Hey Mark is there any possibility that there is an aircheck of KOST Christmas from 2001, the first year of the holiday flip?
@MarkWallengren
@MarkWallengren 9 ай бұрын
That’s a really good question! I know I’ve got boxes of air checks from my show with Kim Amidon That I’ve promised myself I would digitize in 2024. I’ll keep you posted.

@@MarkWallengren Thank you Mark. Also, you know the weather forecast jingle that goes like this "Los Angeles-Orange County (Weekend) Weather!" I have heard a KOST aircheck from 1989 and it contained that specific jingle. But I have listened to other KOST airchecks from 1992-1994 and they never used that jingle. I have also listened to airchecks between 1996-2004 and they had used that jingle. How long have you guys used that specific weather forecast jingle? I was thinking you guys used it from the mid 1990s until like 2006 or something.

Gosh! I don’t know but I certainly remember that jingle. We had a terrible manager of the station after Jhani Kaye departed. I remember one day he walked in to where we stored all of our original jingles both on reel to reel and CDs, only to toss them in the trash. I rescued most of them and have them. When I get to them, I’ll see if I can find the one you’re talking about.

@@MarkWallengren Also Mark, I listen to the KOST Jam Jingle packages on the Jam Creative Productions Website. I listened to the one from 1990 it was "CoastLines" and I was wondering which cut did the station use for the Love Songs Top of the Hour? The jingle package did not include a LoveSongs Top of the Hour cut, and I have heard on some airchecks that the station used some jingles from the following year's package, for example I have heard many of KOST's airchecks from 1992 and they used a lot of jingles from the 1993 "Keep On Coasting" Package. So maybe I was guessing in 1990, KOST could have used the LoveSongs Top of the Hour cut from 1991 "Continuous Coast" (Cut 16)
@MarkWallengren
@MarkWallengren 9 ай бұрын
@@3pointmvpshooter3000 there was a specific ID for love songs, top of the hour. I’m not sure which one was used on that particular package. I can’t say this, we would get complete packages back, and maybe never use up to a third of them. When I first brought a box of jingles home and started listening, I was hearing jingle arrangements for the first time. And this was when the ill fated decision was made to start using Reel for jingles.

now this is the KOST I grew up with. you were there, and this is how a christmas was spent. I still make it a tradition even now, but, it’s just not the same without these playing after what seemed like every christmas song. oh, and don’t get me started on you, you felt like that extra special VIP who had that connection to the north pole. just hearing you, you were like that santa who came out once a year from the north pole, yet when it was all over, the human form had his second home here in LA. I always pictured him and the Mrs having a home somewhere in between here or orange county, just a few minutes away from disney, where they can hear the magic.

A $20 handshake to the maitre d' at Caesar’s Palace in the 90’s got us the VIP table front row center, I think because we had my Grandmother Helen, no VIP’s were coming, and he appreciated the effort. My Grandfather had recently died and my Grandmother cried as Tony brought back so many memories from mere feet away. One of my favorite memories. RIP Tony.

Hi Mark. Can I ask, what brand of radio console/board is used in your KOST studio?
@MarkWallengren
@MarkWallengren Жыл бұрын
Hi Shane! It’s a board made by Harris around 2000. The promises they made about the technology never worked out (mostly the switcher system that would allow talent to customize your board and then be able to go to any other studio, dial in your account and the board would be set up the way you liked on any Harris board in the facility). Turned out no matter what Harris did it failed. They finally gave up and the company wasted a lot of money. 😢
