We will often use freeze dried beef liver, canned chicken, or even hotdogs. However, if your dog is highly food motivated, we suggest trying their kibble first before moving on to higher value rewards.

You make it look so easy 🙂 I still have issues on the turning left with Rieka like you were illustrating. I've started letting her know ahead of time with "turn" she's starting to get the hang of that and when I say turn she backs off and watches me to let me make that turn without walking into her 🙂

I need to lessen the “poop distractions.” Lubbock parks have been really gross and I blame the pet owners for not cleaning up their mess. I want my dogs to obey my command to not pause for the Poop!
@ik9trainers55123 күн бұрын
Absolutely! That’s one good reason why the focused heel, purposeful walk, is critical.

Left-hand circles; interesting.
@ik9trainers55123 күн бұрын
The circle method is great to teach the dog where we want him when we walk. By turning in tight circles he learns to stay clear of our feet, which makes for a much safer walk.

I really need to work on this with both of my dogs. I have had some “near injuries” with door issues. There has just always been too much excitement that happens when going in and out of the door!

We agree 100 percent! Safety is paramount and obedience is designed with that in mind.

Good stuff. Treats not necessary every time Fido does it correctly. Saying, "Good girl!" in a cheery voice will get the job done; pats on the head, scritching their ears is plenty. I could go on and on, but you'd get bored of me complimenting you repeatedly. Can't think of any fix ums.

How do you then introduce others coming yo the door and entering so that she stays in?
@ik9trainers5515 ай бұрын
That is a great question. And the simple answer is relying on the obedience that she has learned through the process. There are a few choices on how to teach your dog to greet others politely. One is through, utilizing the place command and letting them remain on place until their energy subdues. Another option is keeping them in a strict heel and sit or down by your side. Once a dog is solid on their obedience, there are a number of ways to handle this issue.

Shelly, you are an outstanding trainer, and Mack .. of course .. makes my heart miss a beat. I've had the immense privilege of loving 3 Dobies. Folks, do NOT shortchange your Doberman on the training and socialization end. You will be forever grateful if you do, and experience heartbreak if you do not. ♥

I wish my dobbie was that well trained. Jazz (She) is 7 months old and very good except when there are distractions, so pretty much any where outside she is overwhelmed by stimuli and permanently distracted. Any ideas apart from patience?

Would the training with the E collar eventually not help though especially if the owners don’t use it consistently and have it on all the time? I train and have been for over 22 years and it’s interesting to see the implementation of some of these tools as they go to right away(I’m not judging or bringing any heat I personally put a lot of foundation without using prongs and the colors unless absolutely necessary). Nice job!
@ik9trainers5516 ай бұрын
Good question. Our owners are coached in the correct way to use the e-collar in order to prevent "collar wise" dogs. But, yes, if it is not used consistently you will see a diminished effect- which can be said for every training method. However, we also see that the e-collar can be considered as training wheels allowing the owner to wean the dog off of the e-collar over a period of time after consistent use.

I would personally go a little bit less heavy on the treats
@aps326 ай бұрын
Sometimes we go very light on treats and other times its very heavy. Totally depends on the dog and the lesson being taught.
