Easy way to get some more prop clearance is do what Jon Humberd did with his "Super 701" - simply make some extension plates that bolt to the bottom of the legs of the nose gear fork, displacing the axle down as far as you wish.

Amazing video!! Thank you so much for putting out a 701 info vid. I'm am building the same. My question is why not go with the viking Mitsubishi conversion? I didn't get through the whole video yet but just wondering.

Thank you for watching. I went with the baby turbo over the Mitsubishi for the horsepower. I do not plan on competing in STOL competition, but I do plan on installing floats. I originally was going to install the Honda 130 hp following in the foot steps of Deane Philip from New Zealand and the JUG. I talked with Viking several times about their engines, and also talked with Deane who told me flat out that if he was going to build another CH701 he was going to use the baby turbo. Basically the Viking 140 turbo was born during my shopping stage. I followed it closely and when it became available to purchase, I talked with Viking and Jan told me that the vision for this engine was for the Ch701, and that he and Alissa are also build one. I also would like to note that Viking has been top notch to work with through this whole process.

Thank you, I’ve enjoyed the building of the CH701 through all the ups and downs. I have learned a lot, and have a lot to learn. If at anytime you have questions about the process of this particular build, 701/babyturbo. Reach out to me and we can talk.

I like your videos. They are on point, with no flashy but pointless intros, music, or branding. You show the subject, and you're done. Thanks!

It has a very long stroke for a small engine. Its equivelant to a rotax 915 spinning at 8600 rpm at take off and sitting at 7000 rpm for cruise as far as piston speed is concerned. 90.5mm stroke for this engine vs 61mm for the rotax line. Reciprocating mass aside, the piston speed is quite high and I cant imagine it will be good for ring longevity. Most of the modern small engines all have very long strokes for low speed torque, they arent designed for constant high rpm. A rotax 915 at 5500 rpm would be equivelant to this little engine at 3700rpm. Be interesting to see how it goes, best of luck

Lots of fun flying on skis for sure. I made set spruce for mine years ago worked fine. Did you get the taill ski made yet? See some fellas use an aluminum shovel, better than what you have now!. Fly safe!

It just seemed like it was asking a lot from the little plane, but it did a great job, and it took a lot of guts to try it.

Thanks, after researching all the kit plans, I also think the 701 was a good choice for the flying that I want to do. As far as power plant I have purchased a 140 HP turbo charged engine.

Jon is a good source to have close by, I will post some videos of the 140T on the aircraft once it is installed, probably sometime in April. I talked with Viking yesterday and learned that my plane will be the first 701 with the Viking 140t configuration besides the 701 that Alissa and her son are building at Viking.

I have a friend who constantly flies in the winter, so he used the means at hand to create an airboat, especially for compacting snow. After shielding for a minute, it rolls a stripe and then flies

Hey I live in middle TN Not too far from Jon Humberd. Talked with him a couple weeks ago about going down to his place and go over his builds. I'm a farmer just like Jon and I'm planning my 710 build. I'm seriously considering the turbo 140 engine myself. Wanted to thank you for making the videos available. Every bit of information is helpful to those considering building their own airplane. Keep up the good work and thanks again for posting.
