It'll end in tears. It took Alex Ferguson a long time at Man Utd and nearly got sacked before he turned them around. SS has about 2 months to turn Stoke into a successful side. 2 years as a manager: wow, a wealth of experience! 2 years! Good luck with that.

@@andykb Well Andy l hope it turns out well for Stoke City. The reality is that SS has experience of 22 games of Championship football. That's his total Championship experience. Now he's supposed to, and he obviously believes he can, turn an underperforming (perhaps that the politest way of describing the current SC side) side into title contenders. Certainly, he hasn't been hired to turn them into a mid-table side. How can he do that if he doesn't have much Championship experience/knowledge since he's never managed a team in the Championship before. How does he know what is required to achieve that aim? Yes, he knows what works and what is needed in League 1, but the Championship is a big step up. I would have thought someone like Neil Warnock, he has a proven Championship track record, would be better suited. But, hey, l'm just a small potato with an opinion. Time will tell.

@steviebgooder Жыл бұрын
Not quite right RJ. Argyle are ambitious but Stoke have a bigger banks balance and he’s probably tripled his wage. If Brentford, Brighton, Bournemouth & Luton can get there so can Plymouth. The club is still building and a bit of compo is welcome.
@TheRynator14
@TheRynator14 Жыл бұрын
Argyle announced a 5 year plan this year with ambitions to become a club challenging for promotion to the prem or playoff spots. There is ambition at the club but there has to be some realism too, we're currently the poorest club in the championship financially, we are going to need a few seasons of cash injection from being in the Championship to catch up. Whether it ever comes to fruit is a different issue, but can't deny the ambition is there. But Schuey has gone because Stoke offered him 5x the wages he had at Argyle, so even if he gets sacked in a years time he'll have earned more than seeing out his contract with us.

He will be sorely missed at Argyle and has been incredible. This isn't a dig at you lot, but I do question why he chose Stoke. If he finished the season with Plymouth he would have had his pick of half a dozen better opportunities. Equally well resourced clubs and bigger transfer budgets than he had at Home Park but also with perhaps a less volatile hot seat than he now has. The way you churn through managers in the past 5 years would surely be a red flag. This isn't me saying you're not a bigger club etc. But, if you're honest. Is Stoke the best opportunity for arguably one of the top three young coaches in the EFL. To me, I think there will be other clubs in the Midlands and NW that would have come knocking for his services and offer the same dough but better job security
@patrickmonkman8151
@patrickmonkman8151 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree that there’s a common denominator with the amount of managers we get through. The thing is with stoke is that you essentially get given the keys to the club and bring in big back room staff and even make other appointments within the club, this is every managers dream but they end up losing the plot with too much freedom trying to build their own dynasties. If by some miracle you get stoke promoted you’d be fully backed with a kitty bigger than a fair few current PL clubs.

It's money mate. He's being paid much more weekly and if he fails at the job and gets sacked he'll get a big payout. Money talks. Unfortunately we know his speech that he made to the Stoke fans the day he signed is lies. It's the same things he would say here at Argyle. Only difference is Argyle wouldn't offer him the big bucks. For Stoke fans I hope it works out, but don't be surprised if it doesn't. He's taking advantage of your finances, nothing else
@izzleshizzle
@izzleshizzle Жыл бұрын
I understand why. But it's naive short term gain for him. If he fails at Stoke and is binned (with a big payout) his next job is back in league one with a mid table side. I don't think he has the managerial credit for another solid Championship appointment off the back of being sacked. Whereas if he stayed at Argyle for the season and I have no doubt he would have kept them up. He walks into a calmer situation at another club with better stability and an equally large salary. That gives him a much better chance of two solid years in the Champ so he is pushing for a Premier league team. I think he has gone "all in" on this job. If he makes it, great he will be destined for higher roles quickly but if he doesn't he will be just another league one manager in the merry-go-round. To me there are a couple of clubs like stoke and probably Swansea/Watford that from the outside look like a risky environment for an ambitious manager. Good luck to him, he's going to need it!!
