Why is it only the UK tour with this staging had Christine scream when she turned the Phantom around in the First Lair?

No idea, but the UK Tour really seemed like it was more experimental since it was the first version of it. By the end of the US Tour, definitely by Australia, they seem to have worked out what they want. To me the scream makes more sense versus the hair pulling they have.

@phanoftheopera well, I have to admit: I'm not a fan of Olivia Brereton's singing, but in the actual video of her with Earl, she had one of the most realistic screams I've ever heard

@ agree! Katie’s was also pretty good, even if you have to listen to it. There’s a small missing section in the video of her in the tour.

@ definitely odd! I think it was just during a time when there weren’t any filmers. Even for the London production there was a sharp decline from 2010-2018. Really no videos, and if there were they weren’t full or filmed super well. The best from then was probably the highlights with Harriet Jones. Since the pandemic especially though there’s been several UK filmers; if they ever get another tour there it’ll have a better chance of being filmed!

That’s likely just the quality of the audio; there’s one of him with Adrienne McEwan taken a couple months after this one and he’s singing it in the original key

Ya i don’t think they transposed for any cast of Phantom. There are certain ones that it does sound as if they did, but i’m pretty sure they either hit the notes or they didn’t, and there are plenty examples of both!

Honestly, I would have preferred to hear Lawrence Anderson as the Phantom. Davis is just too campy for the role which is weird because I have heard unrelated non-TPOTO performances where he sings believably. I guess he never got the memo that he doesn’t have to do that and it only marks his performance for me.

Aside from the final goof by Victor Posta, this cast is easily my present favourite of the Hungarian production. Phenomenal and gripping!

His thin voice doesn’t suit the role, to be honest. Acting wise, though, it’s also too aloof for the role. It doesn’t come across as believable. Jani is actually decebt , though! Shame she isn’t recorded more.

I can’t get over how much Davis at times sounds like the late Steve Barton. His acting though… way too camp, unlike Steve and way too over the top for my taste. Jeff does a good job as the Phantom though his voice isn’t as strong as others and the late Rebecca Luker, her voice itself is gorgeous and is acting wise is also good.

Maria Listra is very good as Christine of a bit on the weaker vocal side but her acting is stellar. I can’t tell who is the Phantom in this cast. Could I have some clarification? Exquisite vocal acting from all the three leads.

I've seen the show three days ago and i'm still SO in love, i just can't get over how awesome it was. The whole cast was simply amazing. Joe really is the perfect Raul, a true prince charming with a hint of sassyness. And Lily Kerhoas is the best thing i've ever had the luck to see and hear. She was absolutely perfect, and not only her voice - her acting was beyond. I've seen PtO few times in different versions and i've never felt for Christin this hard. Also she and Joe have amazing chemistry. It was an absolute delight and pure joy to be able to experience this. 💖

Loved Ralph when I saw him live. Perhaps it doesn’t come through in the audio but in person he made many small acting choices that surprised me (in a good way) and was a very nuanced Raoul overall. Others seemed to agree with me as the interval after AIAOY was buzzing with praise for him.

It’s a shame Roberts run was so short. His departure was due to both vocal strain, and his son unfortunately dying of HIV during his run. Apparently, based on a couple sources, he broke down crying during the last sequence of the final lair scene after his son passed away.
