This is nothing more than a fancy showcase of C++ skills from the developer. But realistically, who is going to use this? AE's 3D tools and navigation UI have always been terrible and a huge waste of time. Having a normal map react to an AE light is cool just for the sake of existing. But it's utterely useless for any kind of task a motion design project would require IMO.

@@jyx6dda I agree with you on the after effects side. Compositing in AE has always been a pain. Something like Fusion or Nuke is better suited from CGi comping. This section is a part of a larger video series.

in karma you can use area light for gobo, why make it so complicated?

You will still need the kma light filter gobo to control the texture, etc... If it works for you let me know.

@@ramonlevyful This is just for my main machine. I have a few AMD machines and a few Intel ones. For AMD I got the Ryzen 9 7950x. There is no big reason why I chose one over the other. mainly came down to price an availability at the time. But if I were to start a new setup and I didn't have anything I would go with what ever the fastest CPU (possibly AMD) available along side with a good GPU that has enough vram and lots of RAM. Houdini handles lots of stuff with the CPU, After Effects is RAM hungry and a good GPU gets your renders done fast.

Ok, last question - You have mention using After Effects. Are you using Nuke as well and can share some overall user experience between the two programms? Why prefer one over the other?

Would love to see this in macOs, I would even pay for it if it could keep both my linux, macos and windows in sync using the same structure and watch for changes while respecting dotfiles and stuff like that.

This stuff is the kind of thing that stymies new users. Really wish SideFX would revamp this in some way. My students just don't like this system. They aren't from a CS/IT background so it just didn't sit well or easily in their brains.

Hi, this seems created by python, on the first window when you execute your utility, why didn't you use the arg --noconsole on the compile command ?? The console window will not appear, since it is not used anyway. Good organization tool.

@@SyedMuneebAli download the files in the pinned comment. There was an update to the Solaris using the packages method. Make sure you update the numbers to the Houdini version you got. Let me know if you still get issues

Redshift is a 3rd party plugin so you will have to pay extra for it. Redshift offers pretty fast render times using the GPU. But if you're new to Houdini I would use Karma XPU and Karma CPU that come native with Houdini. Thanks for watching!

If you want to do this in an simple dynamic way, locate the houdini.env file and add your custom image. HOUDINI_SPLASH_FILE = "choose your folder path/picture.png"

You can download the updated packages redshift.json file and houdini.env file here download > github.com/jorgelega/Packages/tree/master/Redshift If you have other packages installed and you are getting errors in the Houdini Console, the old way of installing redshift using the houdini.env might better.

why
