In the mid 70s I drove one in high school. That car was enormous- inside and out. I always buckled my lap and shoulder belts when I drove just to keep me from sliding around the front seat. Then one night I was in a head on collision with a drunk driver. Thankfully I was wearing both the belts and I walked away with only bruises from the belts and minor cuts and scratches.

Awesome car Awesome video!! Grew up where folks bought new a 1973 Chrysler New Yorker Sedan with 440ci 4 barrel, Great car for traveling all across the USA, tons of power and torque and smooth ride and quiet too Our family had our Chrysler New Yorker Sedan from 1973 to 1997 We also towed our RV Trailer and Boat with it with no issues, using load leveler Reese Class 3 hitch receiver plus our trailers had either hydraulic brakes or electric brakes

When Chrysler first came out in like 1967 with the "Fuselage" line of bodies I wasn't a fan. I had been a total GTX nut 68 to especially the 70 GTX. And I thought the 71 Cuda and even the 70 Sport Satellite was great but the Fusalage car I never was drawn to. But NOW I really appreciate the great design they were. I think the 69 Chrysler 300 4 door is the absolute total American family car. Period. It dominates the field like say the Olds 98 4 door hardtop controlled that market 56 to like the early 70's its just a great symbol of the real American way of life...before it was outlawed [email protected]

Friend of my dad had one in the mid 70's dark blue ....with blue interior..... my dad always owned beetles....so when Mario Garofalo from Jersey came over....it was always a treat..... and if I am not mistaken it had pillow top seats...yes.....pillow seats......remember one time driving around the Van Wyck expressway in N.Y. I was 15 at the time and was in the back seat.....he floored it to pass someone and it pinned me into to pillow top seats..... great memories...they have all passed to the other side.....but these memories live in my noggin as if it were yesterday.....

I had a 1972 New Yorker. It had the 440 and it would bury its speedo without even trying, would go 95 before it went into top gear, today's cars could fit in the trunk. The horn was a band switch around the iside of the steering wheel. It dry rotted and I had to replace it with a button on the lower dash. I had to sell it in the early 80s when I changed jobs and couldn't afford the 12mpg highway commute. Had a 1968 Satellite and a 1968 Fury III before that, they only had 318 engines but ran very well.

Amazing how few of these are left. Even Ford/Lincoln/Mercury & GM of this era are still more plentiful 45~50 years later, than these are.

Not where I'm from (eastern ON) the road salt took out the early 70's fords in 4-5 years, they had holes you could throw a cat through, and the spare tire had to be moved to the back seat. (reference class action lawsuit against ford using substandard steel) Anything GM was not much better. The C body mopars held together better than anything else for some reason. Not the most scientific approach, but you can check ebay and there are more New Yorkers with the waterfall grilles for sale than any of the other makes from this era, despite gm and ford higher production numbers. And a lot of the C bodies were cannibalized for their 440's, or destroyed in demo derby's (a few years of these cars were not allowed in derbies because they pounded the hell out of everything else).

This is identical to the car I got my Drivers License in. It was 1979. The 440 in these made that car sooooo snappy that you'd swear it only weighed half as much... Honestly, It got up and WENT. It even had a switch on the floor by the dimmer that would change your radio station for you. New cars are very nice and everything but you haven't driven until you've driven a luxury car from the 70s. They were truly different.
