It's actually in the description, but KZbin doesn't show much of the description unless you expand it. It's "Passages" by Kai Engel.

Im trying to get a start going. They were given to me at Petco, but in the septic tanks they have plants doesn't do very well. Its been two week, and life is starting to come back to them. They also have started multiplying. Hopefully i can get them into a few aquariums in time. Im a big fan of floaters for water filtration.

Do you have any idea what kind of aquatic plant would be good for a large pond with south American fish? There's tilapia in there, painted shovel nose, tetras, wolf fish, plecos, will one day add peacock bass. Is there an aquatic plant that can keep the water healthy and oxygenated? Is it possible to keep one that wouldn't cover the whole pond? I've tried adding duck weed but we have muscovy ducks and either they or the tilapia's ate it all so it doesn't survive. I've tried adding water lettuce but those don't survive either for some reason. Any ideas would be great.

Does the tilting and then sudden bursting open of the flowers correspond to daily rhythm (tilting during the night and flowers opening in the morning I suppose)?
@mortrek6 ай бұрын
You're correct, it does. A pretty long time ago I built a system that has photographing light cycle independent of the growing light cycle, but they use the same grow light. So I think it was on 8hr, off 16hr, but every time it takes a photo the grow light comes on for a few moments to take the photo, then turns back off (unless it's during the day, when the light is already on). So the plant reacts like it's night time, but the photos look pretty seamless otherwise. I could make it just dim a bit to represent night but that'd create a lot of flickering. Interestingly, this flower seems to open a different tier of flowers on the raceme each day at about 4pm. Now that I look at the timing, it seems to nod when the light comes on, then steady itself after a few hours. It seems a bit shocked by the sudden light. I wonder how it would react with a more natural and steady increase in brightness.
@ran.glacialis6 ай бұрын
@@mortrek That is very interesting. A lot of plants nod during the night. A lot of plants also nod during heat. But usually there is a gap between night and heat. Do the flowers open in the afternoon outdoors too?
@mortrek6 ай бұрын
@@ran.glacialis Yes at about 4pm. The lights would come on at 9am. This was also made during cooler months, so the temperature was very steady.

Amazing time-lapse. How did you manage to maintain so consistent colour and brightness over the time-lapse? Is this indoors or outdoors? Did you use a light tent for light diffusing? I am trying to learn about techniques for maintaining high colour accuracy and constancy in outdoors time-lapse.
@mortrek11 ай бұрын
Thank you. It's an indoor time lapse. The grow light is also the photography light and is on a custom timer I made to coordinate the lighting with the cameras. I've done some outdoor time lapse videos, and it is very hard to keep things consistent due to both the changing angle of the sun and cloud cover. I tried various techniques, but generally I do not include night time shots. I played with it a bit, and what worked best for a general-purpose outdoor shot (including night) was a decent camera/sensor in Aperture Priority mode with a moderate ISO. If the camera decides on different exposures incorrectly during the day, you can always run it through a deflickering script/program. I always would take more frequent photos than I needed, so that problem photos could be removed. I took far too many photos, and then wrote a script that processes chunks of photos and finds the one most resembling the previous out of the chunk. Also, you can have a separate light of a similar color temp to the sun in the same context. You probably don't want it too bright or it will interfere with plants/animals during the night. If you used some kind of light tent, it should be quite easy to maintain color accuracy. I suppose that if color accuracy during changing lighting is a problem, you could do something like put a white sheet/board in the shot and set to auto white balance... just an idea.

Also, a weird thing is that the leaves seemed to turn lighter in color while the grow light was on. This is not an artifact of my lighting set up, it seems to be the plants actually reacting to the light levels.

Insane how you're getting mere hundreds to a few thousand views per video. And it's not you if you didn't use to get tens or hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of views on your time-lapse videos in the past. Like, the tropism video of a few months back, there's nothing like it on the internet, yet it only netted like 600 views in over half a year.
@mortrek Жыл бұрын
@@nisnber5760 Yeah, the algorithm doesn't like my channel anymore. These days, you need to release a video at least weekly or it totally ignores you. I've just resigned myself to making what I feel like making, at my own pace, and not worrying much about views. Thank you, though. Just the fact that you paid enough attention to make such an observation is itself complimentary. Even if the videos don't get a lot of exposure, I hope the people who do watch them appreciate them.
