This has been a good series so far. Looking forward to the final result.

fake meat isnt healthy it's just not, most of the fake meats have seed oils,fillers,and just not as healthy as real meat so it's no point In going vegan to be more healthy (beans<steak)
@HomeTeamGameDevАй бұрын
I agree it's often not as healthy of an option, likewise real burgers are widely understood to not be a health food, either. Veganism is fundamentally about animal welfare (why it also excludes leather, fur, gelatin, etc), and there are plenty of ways to be unhealthy eating all vegan stuff, like trying to live off twizzlers and oreos 🙂

What is the utilization rate of the employee making $7.35? Could be 50% and the actual hourly rate paid by the company per billable hour is double the base hourly rate of the employee.

I know my company values my time at $80 an hour but only pays me $20, I also wouldn’t be able to make that $20 if they didn’t provide me with a van to make the delivery with and staff salesmen to sell the product I’m delivering and purchase inventory to let the salesmen sell for the need for me to make the delivery

Mortal Kombat was made by the same developers and engineers at Williams, WMS Industries decided to split the brands around that same time. Pinball and Shuffles would be Williams or Bally, all video would be Midway. It was all the same company until the Midway IPO in 1996. And, even then, the companies still were kind of together physically.

If for no other reason, the breaking of stigma so people will seek out help is the most important aspect of all this regardless of where one sits on this Mental Health Train. I have a hard time (sometimes) relating to friends who admit their Neurodivergence, but it's better for working through things than people who have similar problems and refuse to seek help (like other friends or parents). Thank you for being open about this, Chris.

Cool video that showcased a lot of stuff i’ve never seen or of heard of! The only thing i would say is at 10:05 you got the bat mechanism wrong for the official baseball. On this machine and i think all pitch and bat games it is a solenoid that swings the bat. The physical bat is attached to a switch and that’s it. Source: I own this game and a couple other pitch and bats.

Excellent talk. One of my problems in learning programming is that I have fallen in love with "buying programming books", and then not going very far in them. Setting up a programming environment, but not making anything that great. Making skeleton classes and functions, but not really going any further with it.

Just to comment on something you said at the tail end where you admit to journaling and using notebook.... I see it as you doing the same thing that Marcus Aurelius was doing when he wrote what would become Meditations. So while that introspective writing is applicable to only you now, perhaps that internal dialogue will re-emerge later on after you no longer walk the earth.

Hi Chris. I've known you for a while now and the first time I met you at GDC at a party I thought "wow this guy is intense and very clever". Anyway, autism is my special interest since my wife and youngest son got a diagnosis about 10 years ago. My other son very likely has autism as well but was better at masking so never got a diagnosis. Also my wife and youngest son likely have ADHD but don't have a formal diagnosis, but like, it's obvious! One thing I now do is help my wife organise her work/home life with Trello boards. Over the years I've helped several friends recognise they are autistic who have gone on to get a diagnosis. It's helpful to them because then they can learn more about themselves, re-evaluate their past, and also develop tried and tested healthy coping strategies for themselves. As for myself, I've never had a diagnosis but I often joke that if you are a computer programmer, that's 50% of the diagnosis right there! In the end I've come round to the realise that I am autistic (I just did the RAADS and got 136) but because I was able to run a business and don't have strong traits in the social interaction category, it took me a while to figure out. It should be noted that as an indie developer I've ended up structuring my whole life around working on my own in my own controlled environment :D Also, I probably don't have ADHD but do have some level of executive disfunction but I extensively use todo lists and routines/habits to combat that. It's interesting you mentioned your mother because often when I dig into autistic people's past with them and it's very clear that they have one or two autistic parents and grandparents because it's clearly a genetic thing. Realising this may also help people have more forgiveness for their parents if it was a difficult relationship. One final thing: Many of my friends are programmers and are autistic or likely autistics (also within the Aikido that I do, I think there are a lot of detail-oriented autistics). I also think that ND people attract each other romantically because they can talk to each other on a deep level and understand each other. Being able to speak truthfully and withouth masking to someone and have them appreciate that is pretty great. Anyway, good video, all the best!

I'd be really interested to hear more about the specific things you struggle with and how your solutions try to address those for you personally. It might be encouraging to see how you struggle it overcome despite that.

This really resonated with me. Although I'm pretty sure I'm not neurodivergent, I have a lot of the same types of friendship groups you described. I'm really comfortable around ND folks, and it's helpful to have a better choice of categories than just 'very normal' and 'very different'.

Gosh dang it, and I was wondering, since I was initially diagnosed with AuDHD - "he tried so many different systems and ideas for doing stuff and productivity, he's kind of obsessed with it, and he also talks like a machine gun, but for some reason all his ideas as well as his personality as a whole resonate with me on so many levels... he's got to have ADHD or AuDHD as well, right?". And here we are :D

@@HomeTeamGameDev Ive been a sub since your snake in 5min video!, Ive been practice and now my record to code that same game is 9min! I have a question though: what does It take to find a home office job in game dev nowdays Bro? I have some knowledge in js... Greetings from Brazil! ;-)
@HomeTeamGameDev6 ай бұрын
That is a question which does not have an easy answer to fit into a KZbin comment, because in addition to being an always evolving landscape of options it depends greatly on what your background, interests, priorities, risk tolerance, and so on are. Because it requires knowing the person this is more the sort of thing I work with members on in HomeTeam GameDev, but I'll share what can be said in a general sense here. While there are still more remote opportunities today than there were before COVID pushed more companies to try it, that many have been replaced with roles returning to office has reduced the number of openings relative to the far more people who are seeking them, so it is very competitive. This has long been the case for games in general, though. One definite thing I'll suggest, even though it is how you found me, is to no longer worry at all about giving time or attention to speed coding, if your interest is in finding a job. The 5min video was a marketing stunt of me showing off to get attention, but to lead people to that programming course where over 3 hours I then show and explain better ways to do things even for a basic introductory level. The gameplay side is often available in abundance due to game jams and that being a part people find fun to do, if seeking to build a career in it you might look into pathways that are less surface level - middleware companies, tools layer, real-time networking or database interactions - deeper skills in doing something that a company needs done and cannot quickly figure out in-house. A starting point to stay grounded for this is to search for actual remote job listings which you are not yet qualified for, but then instead of bouncing off of it by filtering it out as not for you, treat that as a checklist for some things to direct your next area of study, practice, and to show in your portfolio. Though that position will long be gone by the time that's accomplished, there is often a pattern to these things, and it reduces the mismatch between what people guess someone is hiring for and what there are actual jobs for at any given time. Best wishes! Greetings from Boston.
