Only the love of his son could set him free from his endless life of either loss, betrayal, let down or failures this scene always hits hard, this scene always has myself, my big sis and younger brother in tears. Wither you believe it or not, Anakin redeemed himself by saving his son who loved him, to sacrifice one's self in order to save the child deserves much credit. The prophecy was came true.. and Anakin was released from his life of slavery, a slave as a boy, then the jedi and then the sith, sometimes wish Anakin could have lived but.. the ending was good enough in all honesty. This was the true ending of Star Wars.. no doubt about it 👍

Growling ominously, “YOUR destiny lies with MEEEE, Skywalker! Obi-wan KNEWWW this to be TRUUUUE!” is entertaining. However, struggling to say, “Luke-help me take-this mask off.” Then, “Nothing-can stop that now. The Emperors demise was similar to that of Travis, in Blake,s 7 in the series 2 finale Star 1 Avon shot Travis with his Liberator handgun and Travis fell down a deep shaft to his death and this film having used the same idea was awesome in billions of ways.

I saw this in the theatres in 1983. It was a great scene. Afterwards my friend and I walked out of the theatre in the afternoon to see the Space Shuttle piggy-backing on a Boeing 747 on its way back to Cape Canaveral after landing at Mirabel Airport.

Anyone else watching this scene in 2024 and thinking wow the USA is Darth Vader, Israel is Palpatine/Darth Sidious and the students protesting on campus is Luke Skywalker.

My only takeaway fron this scene is i wished that we saw Vader and Palpatine go at it for a few minutes before the emperor meets his end, it would have been an amazing scene to have Vader actually stand up to him to protect his son and take some serious damage before sacrificing himself. Aside from that, this was still a legendary moment

Wonder if Luke learned to thrash around like that from Captain Kirk.

Darth Vader batried his own son

I saw the very first show on opening day in May 1983 and the moment when Vader grabbed the Emperor and hurled him into the core shaft the crowded theater went absolutely berserk. I will never ever forget the powerful drama of this scene from start to finish. 40 plus years later this scene still has a powerful effect as it did then!!

Imagine how feared Luke must have been in this moment. From the officers/stormtroopers perspective, they saw Luke in shackles go into the throne room with guards and Vader, came out alone carrying a dying Vader with no emperor to be seen. For all they know, he killed the emperor and Vader as well.
