I'm going to make a board like that. I don't really do plein air, but I've made a little kit to have handy to do art at appointments or any time you might be twiddling your thumbs.

Thanks, Lora, I wish time allowed for more of it. As a professional artist, I wear so many hats and juggle so many plates, time is so very precious and time planning is my ever-present enemy lol, cheers P

An alteration I have made to the mint tin box works well for me. You may have noticed the top is slightly larger than the bottom. The tin is thin and the hinge can be defeated to liberate top. I affix two small magnets to the top at the hinge with an epoxy resin, filling the holes where the hinges were. Now the second top fits under the bottom and you have two mixing pans and your pan pallet in one slightly thicker tin. Remove the top from underneath and stick it to the original tin with the magnets.

A new addition to my sketch kit is the top of a 100% cotton white tube sock, rolled up onto my left wrist for wiping off my brushes. Comparable sweat bands are over $10US but I was able to buy a pack of 6 pair of white tube socks for less than that and have the rest left over for my students!

I routinely breakdown and sort thick cardboard to use just to tape down and 'stretch' paper, and just keep that mounted stretched paper at the ready for when the motivation strikes - not plein air, just at home in my art little room. I always love seeing these types of DIY videos, so thank you for this!

Having watched your video two weeks and having tried to juggle paint box, sketchbook , water pot etc in the freezing cold on Saturday- i realised what I needed to do. Demolished old clip board, bought magnetic tape off Amazon- cobbled something very effective together!! Thanks so much for the ideas!!! Sue beginner urban sketcher

I oil paint too. It's my favorite paint, but quite expensive sometimes. I decided to try watercolors before Christmas and ended up making Christmas cards this year using watercolors. I had so much trouble with detail when using watercolor paints because unlike oils you can't make really dark shades and with oils you can.....it's so different. 😂 I'm such a detail oriented person. Beautiful painting btw. Happy New Year to you & your family!

That little homemade watercolor kit using an Altoids tin is so cute! Definitely going to make one. I have a Bob Ross mint tin my husband bought me for a gift last summer....... I'm going to use that 😊

Congratulations! Clarabelle seems to be very cosy and the video was much more than watchable, it was wonderful. I had allways been dreaming of a camper, and when I finally got one (I am 60+), it was just like I had dreamed or even more. I had not been even inside of one before, but when we, me and my dog, started our first trip it was like we never had been doing anything else. We left quite late, so we spent our first night in a vast (in Finnish scale) parking place of a twin gas station. There has never been happier campers in that place, I swear. It was sweet to go to sleep and hear how big trucks slowly rumbled by to their resting area. My camper is an old Fiat Ducato Hymer, and I love it. My dog adapted to camper life from the first moment, and sleeps on the passenger front seat. I got the same happy feeling from your video as I have in my camper. The painting is beautiful, it's the special moment when the sun looks back, like we say in Finland. I wish you great adventures with Clarabelle!

Arh that is so very nice and apologies from me for the very late reply. I really enjoyed reading your lovely message and the feeling that it conveyed to me. I sadly do not get the chance to get out in Clarabelle as often as I would like, maybe 2024 will be better. has your Hymer a name? They are large vans if I remember correctly and spacious, that Id enjoy. cheers P

A suggestion. I buy pen loop that have an adhesive tab that is made to attach to a journal. The 3x5 pentapic Agua journals already have one pen loop. I then make a paper palette on Yupo, with dots of tube watercolor that folds up an fits in the back pocket of the journal. I take one fountain pen with permanent ink, one water brush and a cut off sock that fits under the elastic. This whole things fits in a placket. The palette clips to the back of the book. Very compact and goes everywhere with me..

Hey Paul great ideas for portable boards for watercolor. I have an aluminum sketch board with magnets taped on and a hole that I can drop a naglene bottle into. Btw you called us “you guys” a number of times.. guess what.. we are not “guys” . It would be so wonderful if you adjusted your language to include WOMEN! “Hey ARTISTS,, etc.. thanks for updating you language…

Hi Paul, I wished I had you as my art Teacher back in the day, even though he was very helpful, you do have that calm & warm personality and I'm certain I could have learnt so much from you, especially as I had a habit of constantly asking questions if there was something I wasn't sure of. The strange ironary is even though I loved art at school but I never really buckled down and took it seriously but it's only been these last 7/8 years that I began to take it seriously as a hobby, it's so relaxing and your videos are so helpful and informative aswell as practical. I wish you great health and continued success of your brilliant channel, Take Care Buddy!!

Hi Paul. Jim from Madrid, Spain (a New Yorker expat living abroad). You are one lucky man to have Clarabelle with you in your Art Adventures (my wife doesn't like to share me with another "gal"!). God knows I can use a Clarabelle in my plein air trips! 😓😃😁👍 Hope this summer you can go out for many more plein air sessions. Cheers from Sunny Spain! 😁👍😎
