There really isn’t a comparison in terms of how they appeal and perform as competition pistols. The Echelon is a great duty gun and does well for IDPA but the M&P is definitely superior for competitive shooting.

Looks fun! What is PCSL? We lean heavy toward IDPA with 1 club running some USPSA up here.

It’s called Practical Competition Shooting League and it’s a relatively new sport. Similar to USPSA with a hit factor scoring system but they have their own rule set and targets. Also it’s formulated to run as either 1 or multi gun. Check out the PCSL website for more info: www.pcsleague.us/

Just what I was looking for. I’m just getting into USPSA and as a lefty I like the idea of the Echelon for the CO division. Did you have any issues with them and using it since it’s so new?

I’ve been shooting the Echelon in both IDPA and USPSA for a few months now and have had absolutely zero problems with the gun. The only issue was during the first USPSA match (I believe it was this one, but not captured on video), the base plate on both the stock and converted 20 round magazines popped off when I loaded the mags into the gun. Fortunately it hasn’t happened since removing and re-installing the base plates. The 17 round mags had no issues. I read that there were factory mags assembled incorrectly causing this to happen to a lot of people. Who knows; it was an easy fix and they’ve worked perfectly since then! I highly recommend this pistol!

I love it! I’ve shot both IDPA and USPSA matches with it and think it’s a great comp gun. My only complaint is that both my converted and stock 20-rnd mags exploded during the first USPSA match I shot, however I haven’t had any issues with them since adjusting the base plate. I’d love to see Springfield redesign and give the magwell more of a flare and eventually have some aftermarket trigger options, but for a brand new gun it’s great out of the box.
