The principle is the same. Even someone who is homeless would encounter landmarks as they walk through town. They also visit public buildings. All of these can be used as "places."

Can agree that this method is effective. I do this for geography except i have the world map in my head and as I move through my case studies new countries become 'unlocked' and it forms a connected story. I normally start with China cause all my topics heavily feature China. I can zoom in and out of locations within countries too.

Hello, thanks for the video, do you just associate the lines of notes to specific parts of a room (word for word), or do you summarise a specific part of your note as a story, so you are not learning your notes word for word?
@drfrankbuck
@drfrankbuck 13 күн бұрын
Good question. I'm not trying to memorize word-for-word. Rarely do test questions on tests require that. I am looking to be able to reproduce every point ("the 5 causes of X" for example) or every idea. Having that mental map gives me that.

My aunt and great grandma promised to take me to many places over the years (Disneyland, Legoland, Sesame Place San Diego, Volcano Bay, Big Bear, etc) and they never did. I don't even want to travel anywhere anymore (especially with them). I get so jealous and annoyed when I see other families and other family members of mine go on vacation with me. How do I get over this feeling?
@drfrankbuck
@drfrankbuck 16 күн бұрын
The better question this: "How do you keep other people from feeling this way? You know first-hand the cost of not keeping your word, so don't be guilty of it. The best way to get over your feelings is to take action. Plan a trip. Decide who you want to go with and go. You have a great grandma? Do you realize how many people look at that and say, "How lucky you are!" My great grandparents were all dead long before I was born. My paternal grandfather died shortly before I was born and my paternal grandmother died due to complications with childbirth. Cherish the time you have left with your great grandmother. Listen to the stories. Ask about HER parents and grandparents. Do you know how many people can't tell you a thing about their heritage more than two generations before them? Remember, if it had not been for your great grandmother, you wouldn't have even been born.

Continue to another building with which you are very familiar...perhaps a building on your college campus. You will have plenty of "places" there...outside the front door, the foyer, the water fountain you pass as you walk down a hallway, any of the classrooms or labs you enter, the elevator. Once the test is over, you pretty much dump it all and can start over for your next test. (I did find that even though I was not trying to remember the material in super great detail after the test was over, I did recall it far better than before I started using this technique.

Thanks for this. I am also interested in your thoughts about filtering the tasks, as the undated ones can mount up!
@drfrankbuck
@drfrankbuck 25 күн бұрын
It depends on which way you are going to view the undated tasks. Either way, I would work from the "Today" view. If your system is that every active task gets a due date and the ones with no date are a "master list" of tasks for sometimes in the future, and that you will periodically look at all of them and add dates to the ones you want to act on, I wouldn't worry about the length or the order of it. If you use undated items for things that are available to you now and wanted to organize what started to be a long list, here is what I would do: Again, use the "Today" view. Use the "Priority" field to segment them into high, middle, low, and none. Sort the list by "Priority" rather than date. What you will see is overdue tasks grouped together, and within that group, you see the high-priority ones at the top. So, a task that's one day overdue may be listed above one that is 6 days overview. In the "Today" section, you see a list of everything that truly has a date of Today, and they will be listed by priority. I would collapse the sections for "Tomorrow," "Next 7 days," and "Future." Then you would have your undated tasks (lots of them) with the high priority listed first. Hope this helps.
@laurenceglazier
@laurenceglazier 24 күн бұрын
@@drfrankbuck Many thanks - I will use the undated items approach and follow your suggestions. It will be interesting to see how the system works as the "No due date" grows, that's where the filtering will become more important. For the time being I will filter on key words for context.

I think what you meant to say was, "This is impossible" rather than "This It impossible." Am I correct? When most people say, "This is impossible" or "This can't be done," what they really mean is, "I don't know how to do it." Have confidence in yourself. You are capable of more than you think.

You also have to ensure the Time zone you have in your sheet are the same time of your google calendar. As far as I can find, there is no code to add time zones into Sheets. You would assume that 04:30 PM EST/EDT would work but nope. Bringing it all together- if you work remotely for a company in EST for a company that is CST. You must edit your sheet to be in EST because your Google calendar will place the events AS IS. The other work around is create a Work Calendar (add calendar) in CST. then if you keep the times in CST on your sheet then when you import them into your work calendar they will be AS IS. - Altering the time zone of the Work Calendar afterwards will globally update all events within that calendar. i hope that makes sense, i can't be arsed proof reading this

@drfrankbuck
@drfrankbuck Ай бұрын
The technique you learn here is for getting large amounts of information in short-term memory to help you be successful on a test or speech you have to give without notes. For long-term memory, nothing beats having good notes. The notes you take in class should be a draft. Later in the day, re-copy those notes and clean things up in the process. Look up any information that was unclear. If I were in school now, I would use something like Evernote. You have your notes from anywhere and can refer to them at any time. I have a whole playlist on Evernote that you can find here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/emO8n2N8h5KNmKM
