Is the technique you speak of (3p-1o) sufficient for someone with no background in the given subject? As in, were you only able to use that technique since you had prior knowledge in the area?

Absolutely. It's opened countless doors for me. I'm now a director in data analytics. While the degree serves as an initial checkbox, new technologies like generative AI have truly propelled my career to new heights. If I were in school now, I would prob choose a degree that also incorporates gen ai. Other than that, the degree has been great to have

How to get a degree in 6 months at WGU? Step 1: have 12 years of experience in your field. 😂
@eman08288 ай бұрын
Just because it works for you doesn't mean it works for everyone. This solely varies from person to person depending on theirbexperience and background. If they have no I.T experience. They could be starting from Zero that could take 3 to 4 years to complete. There is no formula.

What do you recommend for someone switching careers and majoring in a degree they have no previous experience to the field?

While it may take a bit longer, I would suggest pursuing a degree that you are passionate about. The content can be quite boring so having passion will let you get through it quicker

For someone wanting to complete most of the courses for transfer before enrolling in the same degree you chose, how would you recommend choosing what courses to take first
@DataManny Жыл бұрын
It depends on the courses your are transferring. I would say the layout of courses they put is pretty well structured. The only courses I moved around were the certification ones to spread it out more

I’ve been reading people complaining about videos/posts like this in the WGU communities.. They say it lowers the value of the degree as outsiders will See it as a lower not serious degree. Mostly because the title don’t offer the experience and everything that went into graduating in 6 months..
@DataManny Жыл бұрын
I can understand that point of view. But I disagree. The courses are just as hard if not harder than a brick and mortar institution.

The speed reading info is great! You break that down for some of us that have not understood speed reading and trying to understand everything. I started learning speed reading a couple years ago, and finally understood not to read Every word and Absorb every word. You can skim through and then see the key things to pick up on.

Hello! I have been in Desktop Support/ Helpdesk support for 15 years now. I am ready to move on to something new. I have been looking at Data Management myself at WGU. What advice do you have in mind for someone starting off in Data Management?
@DataManny2 жыл бұрын
Hey David. That's a great career path. What I've found for Data Management, having a strong IT background is helpful, but having a business understanding is equally if not more important . I think your Help desk background will serve you great to get started on the degree and some of the courses (like the Network+) will directly take advantage of your help desk experience.

Seeing your facebook posts on WGU Accelerators IIRC have been a huge motivation for me. Your tips have also been the best ones i have received so far, but I do have one question. What do you do for certificate preperation? I understand the speed reading process would work there too, but for classes like C846 (ITIL Foundations) there was no PA or module tests that were challenging. How do you go about practice tests for those types of classes?
@DataManny2 жыл бұрын
For the ITIL I used the same technique, but instead of a PA, I used practice tests online. Specifically, there is an ITIL app for about 4-5 bucks a month that gives you practice tests. Hope this helps and thank you so much for watching my video
@benarroyo2 жыл бұрын
@@DataManny thanks! So basically the same method, but it brings in supplementary information. Btw, I watched this video the day after starting my intro to cryptography class, it changed my whole method of studying and I passed the OA last night. This method is killer!!!

Hi Manny, I'm planning to start WGU by March first and I'm going for CS degree because my goal is to become a Data Scientist. Since you are a data expert what is you recommendation to me is the CS road is the best or the data analyst to become a data scientist?
@DataManny2 жыл бұрын
Definitely a data analyst degree will serve you better for the data scientist route. I would say for data science you would need to pursue more statistics above the degree. Once you get the data analyst degree topping it off with a few data science certs will give you more of an emphasis to call yourself a data scientist. That said, a data scientist varies from job to job. So it all depends specifically what field are you going into (utilities, medical, etc...)
