This year, I tried to taste the 2020 niagaras including the Southbrook's Poetica which can give Bordeaux 1st and 2nd growths a run for their $$. However the wine that concerns me the most is the Icewine category. 2013 is a legendary go-to vintage like the 2001, 2009, and 2015 Sauternes however recent vintages are just mediocre to poor. It's not the winemaker's fault but mother nature isn't cooperating. Thankfully I've had a chance to taste 2012,2013,2014,2017,2019,2020,2021 and I noticed the quality is sliding.

I'm going to Niagara region tomorrow to load my trunk with 2020s red like Flatrock Hexa, Flatrock Gravity, Southbrook Poetica, Peller, /Trius, Stratus Can Francs. Had the 2019 and 2020 Poetica 3 months ago, and they were almost like Polar Opposite.

@carlswineclub I discovered that Peller Cab Franc 2020 is still not in shelves.😭. Bought 2 sister's Blanc de Francs, 2020 Poetica magnum and two 750ml bottle. Recent icewine vintages are not as luscious compare to 2013 (had the 2013 Tawse Chardonnay Icewine a few months ago, and it was amazing due to the high acidity to counteract the sweetness, along with pear, apple, honey note). As for Southbrook, had a good chat with the owner, and he suggest to decant the Poetica 10 to 12hrs in advance. Due to time and traffic, I couldn't go to beamsville area to pick up some Flat Rock Hexa. Next time.

Two years or ago, i had a chance to blind taste two cab francs from Peller Estate. I was shocked on their Signature Series' complexity that it can be used to go up against Bordeaux 4th or 5th growth.

I’ve tasted some really good icewine but nothing else really exceptional from Canada. But Ontario icewine is about all that’s available here in Florida without a bit of effort.

Canada makes exceptional world class wines but most often in tiny production quantities. They often don't make it to our own liquor stores in Canada, let alone across the border.
