I think most weather forecasts are correct my parents didn't believe it would reach 40C 2 years ago but it did and I was made to work in that searing heat they didn't show any interest in my welfare and I nearly collapsed in the heat on my way home.

That was a hot summer. I remember being stood round the back of our place and the sun was burning my arm as I stood there. Also heat coming off the bricks. The nights were horrible. Had to have a fan on.

Good video, Barry Needham was on the EWS coal desk at Doncaster and was killed at Great Heck going to work. Class 60's always needed extra TLC and were not a patch on class 66 reliability .

My youngest memories of wanting to watch railways were here whilst staying with relatives here in the early 70's..... I used to pester my dad to take me to stand by that level crossing and depot I distinctly remember what I think was an old steam loco standing behind the shed wall up against it, perhaps being used as a stationery boiler perhaps? Anyone know what loco it was Great video by the way, thanks

I must admit I didn't know anything about these! Converted from Class 319s at the University of Birmingham but been under test for a while. Never seen one in action before. I think this is the only one - I wonder how the trial is going? Thank you for capturing this. Cheers, Paul

It always amazes me that loco-hauled was still a thing during my childhood, seems inconceivable on today’s railways.

Just shows how difficult it is to turn a steam loco around for a return journey now there are no turntables!! Sad to sat it but being "two-ended" diesel locos don't have this problem

Yet to see one of these newer ones at work. Also interesting that the overgrown siding has been replaced.
@markappleby32828 ай бұрын
The siding has been renewed for overnight storage. Bad idea with the green and playground opposite. Be lots of new liverys. There is a video on my channel of one of these track machines working. Was a while back so have to scroll through.

Very impressive standing start! Have always liked the 60’s and consider them a very unloved and undervalued class, just like the 92’s, but reliability issues aside, they will blow the socks off a 66. Good to see that other freight operators appreciate them rather more than DB do! Nice vid! You have a like and a new subscriber.

Seems an extremely complicated way to use hydrogen as a fuel when they could just use it in an internal combustion engine. But of course IC engines are now the Devil's work, so we can't expect anything sensible from government energy policy

I use to get these for journeys up country, it was a very good service and the trains seemed rapid, no hanging about! seemed faster than the HST's, I loved hearing the power car giving it full throttle on a long run which it would often do. Great footage, thanks for posting it up.

Great locomotives and they do sound very similar to the GE Dash 8's in my opinion.

They certainly made a noise when they went past. Made the place vibrate.

Wonderfully eclectic mix of traction that we just don't see anymore. Must be post '97 with all those VT liveried locos though. Lime St hasn't changed all that much tbh.

Great loco's when their behaving themselves , worked on them since their introduction , driven a few ,they will pull nearly anything so quiet in the cab , rode few on acceptance trials and they were game changer when introduced
@markappleby328211 ай бұрын
They served well for a good few years. Shame to see the scrap line at Toton. Changing this particular working to 2 66s doesn't make a lot of sense. Maybe better reliability but double the fuel. Doesn't run 6 days a week now.
