Love the crossroads pattern it’s one of my favorite scrappy quilts to put together, once I accumulate enough scraps from other projects. I’ve always made mine with 2.5” squares, did you use 2.5” or 2.0” squares here? Look forward to seeing your crossroads lap quilt. I always look forward to your Monday morning quilt video to see what you’re working on. 😊

Your question caused me to have a fun trip down memory lane! The print/color squares are 2 inches. I saw where that was confusing. But, then I laid a 2 " and then a 2 1/2" square on the 3 1/2" square; the 2 " was correct. I watched the video and remembered how much fun it was working with all kinds of fabric colors. Part 2 is video #120. An easy way to find my videos is to use this address: kzbin.info

Where can I find how much fabric I need and the dimensions of the cut pieces?
@StephanieKitchens4340Сағат бұрын
Here are two ideas: Request a back issue of Quiltmaker Sept./Oct.2021 from Quiltingdaily.com/go/quiltmaker-issues or look back at the video #199 and click on "see more "in the description. The dimensions of patches for each row are given and center block. Because I just used fabrics from my shelves, I went by the dimensions for what I needed. With the exception of the backing of 3/4 yard, and batting of 24" x 24", I hope these help. I rewatched the video and thought I have to do that again! Enjoy

I know this is an older video but I appreciate all your knowledge shared. I have been asked to finish a quilt for someone. It was started many years ago by her grandmother, all by hand. This at least make it faster for me. I like a challenge but I may have taken on too much 😳. And it is not square, every panel is off set. Her instructions say 31 squares to form 1 strip and 42 horizontal. Lord help me.

How can I get the pattern for 229 the bear paw? I would like to make one.
@StephanieKitchens434023 күн бұрын
Two things: 1. I made a tutorial video for Bear Paws, #228 on KZbin. All of my videos are at kzbin.info 2. Some quilt magazines have a place in the front of the magazine that has an address for back issues. I have searched All People Quilt and was not able to find it for this magazine. I also searched Allpeoplequilt.com/shop and found there were some magazines for 2023 and 2024.

This is awesome....would you rather sew by hand or on the machine? I truly enjoy watching your tortitial
@StephanieKitchens4340Ай бұрын
I intended to hand stitch all of the blocks, but the pieces are quite small and to move quicker, I changed to the sewing machine. Due to the small pieces ,I did a lot of chain stitching to help keep pieces from being pulled down into the machine. When I would start, I used a piece of fabric to start and sometimes gently pulled that piece of fabric. I just finished the 120 blocks and getting ready to add the sashing that goes between the 4 - 3 1'2" blocks to make a larger block. I didn't cut all the pieces and then start piecing. I would do about 10 -15 and sew those. I am going to call mine My Colors Sampler and will share on line.

This is such a nice block. You have a great eye for picking blocks. I like how you use the larger leader fabric when starting to sew. Makes sense! The small scraps I use are annoying.

I found a set of dresden plates on a fabric such as you described! I worked at Jo Ann for a long time and I believe it was osnaburg fabric! That fabric was used in the Civil War era for utility sewing such as boys britches etc.Very hard wearing material. Mh solution was to remove the plates stitched like the butterflys and needleturn applique to ivory muslin. I still need to finish the top now that I've retired! 🎉

There is nothing like a project that lets you be creative. I loved the info about the material for britches; the material the butterflies were on was really strong!

@StephanieKitchens4340Ай бұрын
Yes, but I also added a few light patches to have enough.
@rainydaydiva6320Ай бұрын
I really like this quilt and I’m not even a blue fan, but my daughter would love this. I see a Christmas gift in her future. This would go together super fast, especially with the chain stitching. Any jellyroll would work with this pattern, I even have a blue jellyroll (Isobel by Windham fabrics) I bought it as a daily deal from Missouri Star, I must of bought it subconsciously thinking of my daughter..Thsnkmyou for the free pattern 😊
@StephanieKitchens4340Ай бұрын
The plan was from Love of Quilting Sept/Oct. 2022 p. 92. I think I will grab another jellyroll and do again. It was so nice having neat 2 1/2 widths. Watch for lights in the set. Have fun!

Pretty color combos, love the muted browns, greens and blues in the first tablerunner. I like having a project at night too. But this is a classic courthouse steps quilt block, idk why they’re calling this a log cabin, it goes together exactly like the courthouse steps. Maybe it’s because the courthouse steps was born from the log cabin. Regardless, nice work, Stephanie. 😊

Hi. Just watched your video. I have a yo-yo quilt from my great aunt that she made. I need to repair at least 20 of them. Don’t want to take it apart just repair on quilt? Am I making sense? Thought I’d iron the edges and make a new start of thread to pull it. Anyway thanks for the video showing how. Any tips?
@StephanieKitchens43402 ай бұрын
If the material is still in sewable shape, just take new thread to join the yo-yos. If any yo-yos are falling apart, you could find material that looks very similar and add a new yo-yo. That is so nice that you have a family quilt. Good luck.

Hii!I just wanna ask how you did the template?Ive been so confused on the measuring
@StephanieKitchens43402 ай бұрын
I went back to the video to make sure I went the right direction. My template was probably cut by drawing around a kitchens bowl or saucer; I ended up with a circle diameter (going across the shape) of 4 1/2". Then I made a sample yo-yo by turning in about 1/4" on the edge. When I got done making the yo-yo I measured across and found that the yo-yo was between a little over 2". I liked that size. If you consistently turn in the same amount of the edge, pretty soon the yo-yos are more and more consistent. 1. One way to speed up cutting all the circles (using the 4 1/2" size) is to cut a 5" strip of fabric the width of the fabric. Lay a few strips on top of each other (they can be a variety of patterns) cut the layer strip into 5" squares. Then cut out your circles. 2. Or, if you buy/have 5" square pre-cuts, stack some, trace circle, cut. I hope I was close to what you need. Please, let me know if I didn't! S

This is a great scrapbuster! You always pick great quilts to work on. Do you think this quilt pattern can be converted to a king size?
@StephanieKitchens43403 ай бұрын
4 pieces of paper later, I think I have an idea. Going for 100x100" q.- Using the original pattern, leaving the center square the same, add 2-4 1/2" squares to both ends of each row. (That should be a 4-square & a solid) added at both ends. Later, two 'mini' rows will need to be added to the top left corner & to the bottom right corner. The final border was 4" (4.5" cut before adding)/can be adjusted to get closer to 100 x 100"; measure each side for border length. I really liked doing this pattern, and this might be a way to do it again! (Gave it my best...no guarantee.) Enjoy!

I hand sewed a Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt when I was pregnant with our first child in 1976. Got the top finished, sandwiched, and started hand quilting. I found I didn’t like hand quilting and wrapped it in a sheet and stored it away - for 46 years. I pulled it out when I took up quilting again at age 70. I started learning free motion quilting but didn’t want to mess up my very first quilt so I sent it out to a longarm quilter. I love what she did with it. I found a fun fabric to make my own bias binding and finally finished it this January, 2024.
