Could you tell me more about your shoulder strap? How does that differ from a traditional strap? What are the pros and cons?
@flukutronic Жыл бұрын
Hi. That’s a UkeLeash “half strap”. The big advantage of this design is you don’t have to alter the uke at all. Generally I prefer the model that attaches to an end pin. But if the uke doesn’t have one, this can be a good option. I also sometimes use this strap during recording if the end pin is causing too much handling noise.

@flukutronic Жыл бұрын
Perhaps it wasn’t clear but I hinted around 4:15 why I did that. The washer I had on hand had an inner hole just barely bigger than the ball end. I was worried it might actually pull through under string tension. The bead was a convenient and pragmatic solution. I agree not the best solution but I didn’t feel like making a trip to the hardware store 🙃

With the WARBL you only have finger vibrato available since there is no other MIDI controller other than the breath. The VL-70 does have some built-in effects like delay and reverb that might help with the "note just dies" issue. Hello Jim, do you think this instrument can bear a low B? I'd like to tune it like a oud, BEADGC (regular 4ths). Nobody seems to be able to answer this question, so *thank you* if you can! :)
@jimhanksmusic3 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I'd be skeptical to be honest. The low E is barely acceptable. There are two other options you may want to consider. One would be EADGCF - just tune the top strings up a half step and you have a 4ths tuning - same as oud but up a 4th (seems appropriate :-) ). If you must start with B, another idea would be to let the 6th be reentrant, i.e. an octave up - the pitch would between the A and D strings. This lets you use the same chord shapes but the "voicing" will be different. I recently wanted a guitalele tuning starting at C#3 and going up. This would have put the 1st string too high so I took it down an octave. Works great! kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXfVpWWel7Gofsk
@evanjazzista3 жыл бұрын
@@jimhanksmusic Thanks for such inspired solutions, Jim! :) Actually what would make the instrument sound like an oud *is* the low B (that and defretting the guitar...), but I think your ideas led me somewhere: how about using an extra low E and loosen it to B? It may feel obscenely floppy but probably still credible sonically. Perhaps even loosen it to just C would be interesting. Feel free to tell me your take on this. And *very* nice C#3 guitalele video, btw! :)
@jimhanksmusic3 жыл бұрын
@@evanjazzista hey wait, what if you took the whole tuning up an octave? My C# tuning is for 17". For 19 or 20" it would totally work to start at B2 and go up. The top string would then be reentrant in the same way as my tuning but you'd have the bottom 5 like you're wanting. Just a thought.
