I listened to this song first a few months ago, maybe one or two, I have been completely hooked on the smiths since then, It's a shame they never made it to the 90s.

Liam's jacket is the sartorial equivalent of this song: Rubbish, but he can carry it it off.

MARCH 2024 BRILLIANT I actually love this song, because I think it's Pete's way of sniggering at the judge in question, and Roger delivers it superbly too. 🇬🇧Ⓜ️🇬🇧👍🎤🎸👍🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

Love The Who, but this was neither their greatest song nor album. And why stoop to making fun of priests? It's puerile anticlericalism. I get that The Who want to keep their anti-authority credentials alive, but there are countless better targets amongst politicians, who unlike priests, wield actual power over us.

Bono did the same, tho. He railed against greedy televangelists on a live version of "Bullet the Blue Sky", that was captured on the "Rattle and Hum" soundtrack. He got a massive cheer upon singing the impromptu verse "The god I believe in isn't short of cash, mister!".

The sound of the Smiths has aged well. It always amuses me that although the Smiths were the darlings of left wingers, Morrissey has never made any secret of his contempt for their BS views and the damage they have done to British society. Unfortunately the truth hurts.
