The protective control box has been a point of contention for over 50 year. Just about all Army wheeled vehicles had a version of this box on-board. Back in the day they were manufactured by Leece-Neville. My Fuel & Electric guys took one apart 40 some years ago. The only thing serviceable was the relay. The logic PCB's and terminal boards had no NSN's assigned and the Army Tank-Automotive Command never provisioned repair parts. The entire box was designed as a line replaceable unit. The Protective Control Box was designed to protect the cranking and charging systems from catastrophic failure.

Have you added star washers to the antenna mounts to body bolts? Technically that ground braid should go to the bolt that mounts the offset mount to the body. I have an older zip tie gun from the Bell System days, tension is a bit loose, tried adjusting but no luck. Bought an "inexpensive" Ty wrap installation tool from Tyco back in the days, it’s a manual device that grips the tie and allows the user to determine tension and when you are satisfied with tension just twist the whole device and it cuts the wrap.

Cutting to length was the key. Then guy on a forum posted video he found and its genius easy. I won’t rip mine out with truck like that one video but do strap tire and use come-along and it pulls out super easy. A buddy of mine uses his 4 wheeler winch. To put back in- just a piece of 4x4 square tube and bottle jack on top. Extend bottle jack so its egg shaped and slip it in. Then release jack. Done. INSANELY easy install. Someone I used to know had a Toyota V6 engine rebuilt that belonged to a 4Runner. He paid 4K on a high quality rebuild but it had problems. So I took a look at it. I found that the only work done to it was new head gaskets and an engine paint job to make things look new. There was coolant in the oil pan. massive vacuum leaks and the quality of labor was worse than unskilled. He showed me the receipt from the shop with all the items they claim to replace. I decided to take a drive with my buddy that owned the Toyota to the shop so I can complaint and make threats. Well, the shop was completely gone. There was no trace of any business existing on that lot. Scammers are out there.

I had something similar happened to my brother with his Dodge pick up. He blew a head gasket so he took it to a shop to have a new head, gasket and pair of heads put on it. After sitting at the shop for a week, the shop told him he needed a new engine because the motor was bad. So he okayed to have a new engine put into it. So they took his engine transmission and transfer case and swap it out with not a Dodge. But a Chevrolet big block that was seized solid due to sitting outside full of rainwater. Turns out they sold his small block. Transmission and transfer case plus the $15000 for parts and labor. For a truck That mostly just needed a head gasket and heads.
