I wasn't even gonna play this game (that's why I don't have footage of the beggining, I started to record 2 or 3 hours into the game XD) and the trailers seemed meh~ but I'm glad I played it! If you can (and want to/can afford it) I highly recommend to play it! The gameplay is super fun and if you're good with combat games, you will 100% love it! Thanks for your nice words and thanks for being chill by using a little bit of your footage :D

The parry mechanic is basically less well implemented version of the one from Sekiro. Which isn't much of a complaint considering Sekiro has the best parry mechanic I have ever seen.

I haven't played Sekiro yet and I know everyone keeps comparing to it so I decided to use other games that I've played as examples
@NuclearRizzicist
@NuclearRizzicist Жыл бұрын
Imo I wouldn't say less well implemented, more so less focused on it, given dodging is just as viable and arguably better in some scenarios. The feeling of parries being off in Lies of P may also be that nearly every boss has an odd delay of some sort in almost all of their attacks, so its more so feeling out the timing in Lies of P than visually reacting to the attack in Sekiro. Definitely similar but also a different approach on the idea.

Well I haven't played the game after the last patch where they fixed a lot of the delays with enemies attack, IDK if it also affects bosses

I don't think he would consider it a parry in Seikro either, it also functions like a perfect guard that builds a stance break. Unless I'm misunderstanding his explanation a parry should stop the enemy's attack or provide an opening to counterattack. I don't really agree with need to stop the enemy from attacking but its interesting that people have different ideas of what a parry is or what the system should contain.

As I mentioned, I've never played Sekiro but from I know, once you break stance you can do a big attack. I don't have a problem with that! With PG sure, you build up groginess but it's VERY easy to miss it once it's activated. I get it that LoP was inspired by many soulslike games but my point was that in the game the PG is nowhere near as good as doing a parry with the TDS. I tested it with Nameless and with his winded up attack he just continues and goes and goes and goes whereas if you actually parry him you break his attacks

1. the game does have parries that lead to immediate counterattacks such as guard parry and the twin dragon sword charged heavy 2. there are other game with parry mechanics that don't reward a visceral attack or equivalent. For instance fighting games like Smash Ultimate, Rivals of Aether or street fighter (with the famous Daigo Parry clip) It's semantics, but often times parry just refers to a timed block. If you wish to define it differently by adding another requirement that's fine, but it feels pretty pointless as the main topic of a video. Especially when... Lies of P itself already calls it Perfect Guard, not parry.
@theMaxTero

Well, if you read any post or watch any video, the vast majority of people don't call it PG but parry. That was one of my points in the video since it's wrong to call a mechanic parry when it actually isn't a parry. I'm aware that not all games reward a parry, which is why I don't play/engage with thay mechanic in those games because to me, it's pointless to do something really tight and not having any type of reward. That's why I insisted in Dark Souls/ Bloodborne (and the vast majority of Soulslike games have a proper parry). Also I know that there's a guard parry and the two dragons sword parry. The later part of the video is debunking my own statements XD

@@theMaxTeroYesss, I HATE that people call it a parry. Especially when there are actual parries, and yet people don't care about what's actually what.
@theMaxTero
@theMaxTero Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's why I delved into that. It's not like the game lacks parries it's more like the game has very few and specific parries and, in my personal case, once I was able to understand that the perfect guard is NOT a parry, suddendly, the game became 10000000% better and more fun because I stopped treating the perfect guard mechanic as a typical parry

Hey pal! Thank you for watching the video! I actually was gonna do a connection between FFX and LoP but I will leave that for a theory video (or storyline) because I think there certain things they took from it. Anyhow: I hope that you enjoy LoP once you play it! My only suggestion would be: just learn how to play the game and throw everything that you know from FromSoftware games to the window!
