Cairo reminds me of Addis Ababa with the begging and scamming. No offense but Egypt would be nothing without the Ancient Egyptian monuments. To me Egypt is an "in and out" trip. Probably 4-5 days max. I'm STILL going. But all in all half of yall never been to developing countries and it shows. I doubt Cairo will be as hectic as Kampala, Addis Ababa or Cap Haitien lmfaooo....

Bro, Ethiopia, and all the sub Saharan countries are heaven compared to this shameless uncivilized and uneducated disgusting 3rd world Egyptian shythole! India = India in Asia Egypt = India & Bangladesh in North Africa. India, Bangladesh and Egypt are the only 3 countries that are similar in filth, scamming, begging, touting, pickpocketing and perverting. The streets are in a miserable state. The ppl uncivilized and uneducated and are stuck in 500BC. No need to visit those dusty and badly maintained ancient buildings and structures where this disgusting scavengers use it as a toilet. Avoid there are better options in North Africa like Morocco 🇲🇦

I am truly sad because my country is one of the oldest civilizations and I wish to leave it in order to obtain my rights like any citizen. I sincerely apologize to you and invite you to visit the city of Alexandria in Egypt. I will take you to visit the tourist attractions in Alexandria. I don't want any money from you. As part of a three week trip in 1980....first ten days in Kenya primarily timed to witness a total solar eclipse in the southern part there and to visit some of their fabulous game preserves, then ten days in Egypt. The Pyramids are truly a breathtaking experience, but the constant and entrenched "pushy demand" for backsheesh gets mighty tiresome in a hurry...for example....I used a restroom at a Hilton Hotel we stayed at in Cairo...no paper towels to dry ones hands with, but someone at the door will hand one to you from a roll under his arm (WHICH should have been on the wall)....then LOUDLY commense demanding "Baksheesh, bakSHEESH BAKSHEESH! We found the farther we got from Cairo, the less demanding it became...however......ONCE was more than enough for me and you couldn't pay me enough to EVER repeat my visit! Sounds like it hasn't changed any since I was there!... We found even the baggage handlers at airports demand 'Backsheesh', and, if you DON'T pay it, your luggage strangely turns up msssing! Once, while at the Cairo Airport, the baggage handlers couldn't find our luggage (40 people involved) One of the women of the group said, "I know HOW this works"....slipped them a $10 bill and then suddenly, they 'found' ALL of our luggage! We went with a tour group...cannot even imagine what it would be like if I were on my own, but of course, I'll never find out for that will NEVER happen! In my worldwide travels, mostly chasing total solar eclipses, I have now visited 19 countries, and ALL of them I would revisit, except Egypt....I Will NEVER return! BHE

@@boundariesunlimited267 You're quite welcome. I'm keenly aware its been 44 years since I've been there, the pyramids are truly a wonder to behold.....and I went with a professional tour group. However. the constant demand and hassel for 'Backsheesh' even from someone standing in the doorway of a Hilton hotel, handing one a paper towel from a roll under his arm while I was exiting the restroom, (NONE inside) then loudly and repeatedly demanding "Backsheesh, backSHEESH. BACKSHEESH" strained my patience to the limit. While I know traveling abroad is quite different from traveling here in the states, and don't expect it to be the same as at home.....I have now visited 19 countries in my travels, Including spending three weeks in China, and two weeks in Kenya, often for the #1 primary reason to view a total solar eclipse, I have now viewed 10, the last one from Argentina five years ago, Egypt is the ONLY country I will NEVER revisit, even if it were FREE. One thing I will mention....As we flew out from the Cairo airport, we had barely cleared the runway and had an excellent view of the pyramids from the right side as we began climbing, when the pilot banked the plane for an even better view, then came on the intercom and said..... "It is said man fears time, but TIME fears the pyramids!" Then grew respectifully silent. One last thought.....No one really knows how old the pryamids truly are, or, although there have been plenty of proposed ideas, NO ONE really knows HOW they were actually built, and, the Spinx is thought to be considerably older then are the Pyramids. BHE

@@boundariesunlimited267 I'm in the hood though, which actually isn't even particularly dangerous, just crowded, uncivilized and annoying. The semi-urban village I'm in was mentioned in the French book وصف مصر The Description of Egypt which was written during the French campaign on Egypt. Napoleon brought over an army of savants to study Egypt, one of them wrote that book. Farmland is getting urbanized so quick in Egypt the people can't adapt and they don't understand urban life so there's always fights and really bad driving, rude teenagers, mischievous children, xenophobia and religious discrimination and many other symptoms of spiritual sickness, but if you're already hardened to such mild nuisance and ignore all young people and focus on people 40 and up, it can be wonderful, the older generation are gentlemen and ladies in comparison to the young who were raised in poverty they're just savage and barbaric whilst being two faced, they're convincing actors too. Having said all that it beats Baltimore, Philly, Chicago and probably every American city in crime rates and violence. There has been an atmosphere of lawlessness since the 2011 revolution which was somewhat mitigated by the 2013 change in leadership but it's still not back to pre 2011, not by a long shot. The way I see it despite having both Egyptian and US citizenship, Egypt is the better more affordable choice for me. I haven't been to the states in 7 years and I plan on making it ten.

I went to Egypt and did so much research before leaving. My family and I went in oct 2023. Pyramids are breathtaking and I booked guided tours via Viator and it didnt disappoint. At the airport we were leaving for our next destination which was Jordan. One of the officials purposely created a distraction so another guy can STEAL my daughters passport. I did my research and knew this stuff happens but yet they find ways to create a diversion. I went BUCK on them all. I mean mama bear crazy came out and I had my daughters passport back in about less than 10 mins from who stole it. They will push u to see what they can get out of u. I am Canadian born and raised but I am of Indian descent and I can speak Punjabi and I purposely spoke Pun when they stole my kids passport and I would purposely drop the word Canadian Police in English. This was enough to scare them and give my kids passport back. Remember they rely on TOURISTS like us for their economy. I read some comments and I agree do your tours see what u came to see and be vigilant then u should be fine. Ive been to about 20 countries and my 9 yr old has been to 9 countries with me. My husband is from Egypt. We went two years ago. He hadn't been back in 8 years and it was my first time going. We spent one month there. His family is in Cairo. We visited all of his family, stayed in 3 different resorts, went to Alexandria, Sharm El Sheikh, swam and snorkeled ams parasailed in the Red Sea, visited different museums and Ceditals and churches and mosques, and so much more! I absolutely loved it! Yes its not clean and the outside areas around the pyramids are not great, and you do get children begging you for money, and vendors trying to sell things non stop, but I loved it and going there a longer time, you got used to it. I did travel with my husband and his family and uncle and brother, so I did get to have family bargin and deal at shops and talk to the Uber drivers and deal with everything. So I was just was along for the ride and didn't have to worry about not feeling safe. We will be going back in two weeks to take our one year old for the first time to get her baptized there and to see her dads home country. We will be there another full month. We are so excited!! But it is a culture shock if you dont know to expect certain things! Definitely do your research and watch videos like this to get an idea of what to expect. The history is definitely beautiful ❤

I am an American Egyptian who has traveled to Egypt numerous times. I must admit that everything I have read about Cairo is accurate. However, has anyone here tried to visit any of the other new Egyptian cities? Has anyone been to Sharm el Shiek or the new city of Almain? You won't appreciate Egypt if you wish to stay in Cairo or close to the pyramids; instead, you should stay in one of the newly constructed cities. One bit of advice: if you choose to visit the old city of Cairo, the only way to interact with locals is to be extremely unpleasant. Once they realize you're a foreigner, they will only avoid you. Oh one more advice if you’re looking to get around in Egypt, then please use Uber or any other similar service, don’t be cheap 😊
