According to a book I read that had interviews from actual park staff, The Bat's failures had nothing to do with the decision to turn a train on The Racer backwards. They did it so they'd have something new to market for the 1982 season due to having a reduced budget.

Ravine Flyer 3 is also it's own mini-mystery. It was built in the park 8 years before Ravine Flyer 2 existed, so by all means it should be 2. But I had a different name before, only being branded with 3 after RF2 was built. Why?

Met two people that rode The Bat. Both said the same thing about it. Some parts were so rough it would slam you hard you would get bruises.

I sprained my neck on the original The Bat. I appears to glide around those curves, but it didn't, at least not for a rider under 100 pounds. I swung from side to side inside the car! But I'm not mad about that. I'm really happy I got to ride The Bat.

I was 7 yrs old in 1981 when I rode this thing on a cold September morning, my first thrill ride. Pants were suitably sh*t. 😂 Did the beast at night that same day too. Great memories! Thanks!

To me it just makes more sense to have a hill over the road like an actual bridge rather tgan a dip
@Retailman100 Жыл бұрын
The original Ravine Flyer was built before the road was put in. The bridge was somewhat hastily designed and even today would be a near impossible engineering challenge but was an inadequate structure.

CBS who gained control of the parks after the ViacomCBS split did want to give CF the license for everything Paramount/Nick for 10 years in the original contract but CF decided not to and just used the Nick stuff until 2010... At least that's when the Nick stuff vanished here at the Kings Dominion Park not sure if it was the same for the others... and the kicker, the split was the reason for the selling of the parks but Viacom and CBS got back together in 2019

@@johnd5931 A roller coaster being wood or steel depends on the makeup of the track bedding. A roller coaster with steel track is steel. A wood coaster has wood track bed, usually layered, with steel railing for the wheels.

The voiceover refers to this ride as "smooth." I regret to say that is no longer the case. I rode it last Friday (7/23/21), and it was disappointingly rough. I've been riding woodies for over 50 years, so I know whereof I speak. It's too bad, as it has a great track layout.
