I like reading classics and I have learned to not read the blurbs and introductions because they almost always are replete with spoilers.

I avoid blurbs and synopses almost as a whole now - maybe I'll read the first line, but that's it.

I was using both for a time, but after a while I found it eeasier for myself to just use one.

I like reading history, so there are books I'd like to see used in documentaries. Do you have any documentary ideas? Liberty's Exiles by Maya Jasanoff is about the loyalists during and after the American revolution. The Ukrainian Night by Marci Shore tells the story of the Maidan uprising. How the South Won the Civil War by Heather Cox Richardson is about the rise of the lost cause ideology and how the southern states regained power in congress and among veterans after the civil war.

I have a whole shelf dedicated to my history nonfiction books, and some could be good documentaries. Egyptomania by Ronald H. Fritze would be so interesting to see as a documentary. Also Meetings with Remarkable Manuscripts by Christopher de Hamel.

You've got a pretty good list. I read the Count of Monte Cristo as a teenager and loved it. I mostly read nonfiction, which I guess fits in any season. Red Notice by Bill Browder might fit in the transition to fall. I've never read a thriller, but I imagine that it has that vibe. It's intense. It has a bit of mystery, a bit of death, escape, and a lot of corruption. Can books about environmental history fit here? They're reflective, and I feel like transition periods can be that way. Floating Coast by Bathsheba Demuth, Changes in the Land by William Cronon, and Scars on the Land by David Silkenat are all good.

I think environmental history books would 100% fit! I definitely feel like nonfiction could be divided into the different seasons, it would just depend on vibe, what it's about, and location. I used to only read historical nonfiction, so I totally see where you're coming from (until university when I got my BA in history...).

@@theshannaeilishshow You got your degree in history? I kinda wish I'd done that. I felt a little bit pressured into doing communication disorders. I'm not sure I'd have been good at writing papers though.

Yes, I did! The papers weren't too bad, IMO. But it really is something you need to commit to. (Sorry for my late response.)@@melissamybubbles6139

It's about the last faire that has a significant amount of music and dance more or less appropriate to the period portrayed (or for that matter, even attempts to portray a historical period at all). Decades ago, you literally couldn't find a place at Faire that wasn't within a stone's throw of a music or dance performance. Phyllis Patterson thought such things were very important to the whole "Living History" atmosphere. This Faire (and one or two indie cousins with Living History Center Faire alumni) is the original article and still has just a bit of the original magic, hiding somewhere away from zip lines and food trucks, if you know how to look.

The important thing is that I'm happy with my purchases! And I love my local B&N - there's so much variety, although some aspects could be better. (I.e. having more of a variety on the BookTok table.)

I really enjoyed this video and also heard some advise I'll try to follow, the reading journal stuff. - Additionally, this is meant as a joke, I wanted to tell you that the thumbnail feels like the original, first to ever exist clickbait to me. Showing me a shadow of the fox chapter and not even mentioning it? How cruel of you. (Again, please take this as a joke, I mean no offend, I'm sorry if this bothered you in any way ^^')

I'm glad you were able to get some advice from here! 🩷 And I'm sorry for not mentioning Shadow of the Fox. I didn't mean it as clickbait. It was the book I was reading at the moment. 😅 I do have some rec videos based around Shadow of the Fox, though (one book recs video and an anime recs video).

Fantastic video, Shanna! One of the best advice I was given years ago was your DNF advice. My reading life changed so much after that. I was torturing myself and found my interest in reading almost completely dropped off! On the content subject matter, I think it's great that you create content about the things you love. Makes your videos so enjoyable to watch.
