I'm so glad I ran across this content! I think I (inadvertently) applied for a per diem job, as a quality improvement nurse, here in the Bay Area (I'm from Houston!). By the way, have you considered doing an interview with Jason on Nurses to Riches? I'm pretty active on his KZbin and think you'd be great to share insights with him!

I'm trying to find my way through the nursing world. I have been a nurse for a year and have been through so much trauma and burn out. I am humble and love to learn. I'm not a new grad that walks in knowing everything. I always give Thanks to those who took the time out to help me. I worked in hospital and ltc, so far it's been horrible. I gained a lot of experience most of it came from being thrown to the wolves. Not good preceptors, half of them tell you straight to your face they don't want to train or they didn't know they had to. Oh and low staffing with high patient ratio is even more challenging. I am also a single mom so it's hard going to a job that jeopardize your license but yet you have to make money and in a lot of cases I left due to not wanting to loose my license. I'm trying to keep hope in the Nursing world but it hurts my heart. I been in the health field for 13yrs. Like yourself I also helped raise my siblings at a young age. Nursing is inside of me, but this world we live in is questioning me of wanting to go further. If anyone has positive feedback and can help guide me I'm in need of support. I know in my heart I want to stay a Nurse, but with all the challenges. It definitely feels like I'm being defeated.

That's crazy. anyone can be a case manager in my state....the secretary was the previous case manager. Seems like all that extra schooling is a waste of money, when all the job has to do is train for it.

Thank you for your podcast :) I plan on applying to nursing school next fall in order to attend next spring. I dont plan on working at all while in school, this is a second career for me. Ive planned my expenses (including school) so that the only thing I have to worry about is school. You both spoke about the change of your mindset (to retain the information taught to you). Do you know of or have any materials that you can recommend to prepare a student on how to change your mindset for studying and retaining knowledge? The barriers you both spoke about also seem to be things that are common amongst minority students. Do you think minority students dont have enough support?

This is very helpful and insightful. Thank you for hosting Ms. Siarri, she's absolutely right, nursing schools could do better at the undergrad level to teach nurses IT concepts. I was introduced to this link in one of my doctoral NP classes.
