Cool this elevator thought... Why did all the padding and plastic covers in the elevators, mate? Refurbishment or taking place out of the service??
@LucasTheTechCollector
@LucasTheTechCollector 21 күн бұрын
Building work was taking place in the building at the time - the padding is to stop any building materials transported in the lifts damaging the cabin interior.

I am from Santiago de Compostela and I stumbled upon your channel by coincidence, only yesterday just by typing Santiago de Compostela 1970, because I wanted to see videos of my city from back then and one of your elevator videos popped up. I had to subscribe immediately because your interest and the passion that you put in it are one of a kind and I always had a fixation for elevators. They remind me of my childhood close to Praza de Vigo in Santiago. You unlocked a fascinating feeling and memories that I have intimately associated with elevators from my childhood years. Keep developing your passion. I am learning of the elevators in my hometown and learning of the Schindler elevator company and others. I only knew of OTIS until now.

Thank you so much for your comment! Truth be told, I'm actually from London although many of my relatives live in Santiago, so I've been taking trips there my whole life and am very familiar with the city. Part of the reason I record and document these old lifts/elevators is also because they evoke a certain sense of nostalgia, with their dimly lit wooden cabins and mechanical sounds... There are not many left now, sadly. New elevators are so quiet and sterile, they possess very little character compared to the classic 1970's elevators which used to be everywhere throughout the city.

As of today this one has not been replaced but also as of today 11/06/23 the new lift next to it has just started service. 6:29 Does that Hitachi have a timer? 7:19 That "Cool Boy" looks more like a Taiwanese ripoff of a Sanyo fan. However if it's a real Sanyo then wow! I love the slow start of the National Panacool, at first I thought its capacitor went weak but it seems to reach full speed.
@LucasTheTechCollector
@LucasTheTechCollector 2 ай бұрын
The Hitachi does indeed have a timer! Sadly when I tested it however, it did not appear to function. The "Cool Boy" fan is indeed unusual as it features the styling of some Taiwanese Sanyo fans. Here in the UK in the late 1980's we also had Pifco fans that were near identical so probably originated from the same factory in Taiwan - whether or not they are real Sanyos or just knockoffs, I don't really know.

I don't think it does anything anymore, these lifts (as well as all the other large tube station lifts) seem to have been converted to automatic operation in the early 2000's. Before then, I think they would have been called manually and operated from inside with that button.
