I don’t like the dream/frostbite/shock theory, because dream plot twists are over used and feel like they undermine most stories. Also Jason Funderburker still had the bell at the hospital scene!!

Hey. I'm pretty sure (?) I mentioned Jason Funderberker still having a bell at the end one of those things that makes OTGW more difficult to explain than a straightforward explanation would allow (I also think I went on to say that I think the frog ate a firefly, as the bell doesn't make any sound, but OTGW doesn't have an actual real theory that fits it imo, it's not supposed to). I don't think this theory is necessarily a shock theory? It could be like a dream theory, yeah, but the way I see it is less like a dream and more like a journey, like Wizard of Oz, or Labyrinth. It happens in his subconscious though, so yeah you could see it as a dream.

Such a cool video! I've been looking through almost all the videos on Over the Garden Wall for research, because I am currently editing my own. I only watched yours after I finished my script, because I also approach the story from a psychological point of view, which I haven't seen in most of them. I didn't want my perception to be colored too much before writing down my thoughts. Really like your comparisons and history references. Makes me wanna check out Silent Hill, which I've never played. Never watched Labyrinth either, but it reminds me of Pan's Labyrinth. Oh and damn, such an ancient memory has been unlocked by you mentioning The Sword in the Stone, I totally forgot I've ever seen it. Also your art is awesome!! Very cool style. Well done!

Honestly we need more psychological analysis of OTGW. I feel like people focused SO MUCH on one theory that they totally forgot to go really into the meat of things, and look into the characters, so I'm glad to hear more people are doing videos on it! I also didn't do any research on other people's videos cause I wanted to be pretty detached as to not get sidetracked, so I get iy. Silent Hill is an amazing series, especially if you like psychology. I majorly recommend two videos, if you don't wanna get to playing, which is Jordan Underneath's SH 2 and depression video, which he deleted off of the web but acknowledged meant a lot for people so it was ok to watch if reuplouded, and tangomushi's video on Heather from SH3. Playing it will be much better ofc but if you feel lazy, I recommend these two! Also I'm pretty sure I fumbled the bag and should have made the comparison between OTGW and Labyrinth, so if you liked one you'll definitely like the other (it's not as similar to Pan's Labyrinth though, at least I don't think). (Also thank you sm! I love drawing and loved the opportunity to include something or another in this video <3)

@@SaturnPumpkinhead I was really surprised to not see more about the psychology of it tbh! So I definitely agree, it seems things got almost concluded with comparing it to Dante's Divine Comedy. Thank you for the recommendations, honestly I often do get too lazy to play games lol but I feel the gameplay might be something I enjoy since I played a lot of PS2 games. I see so many in depth videos online, even entire channels, so I think it will be a good idea to play them finally. Oh I actually forgot I did play PT, I guess that counts! Hmm I think you did pretty good with focusing on Silent Hill, you gave good examples for a story that also reflects the main character's unconscious in the "other world". But hey, can always revisit something if you feel it is worth it! Also you're welcome great idea to include your drawings :D

oh this was SUCH a good video and interpretation of otgw omg?!! i knew nothing about silent hill prior to this but i definitely agree and i do see the labyrinth comparison especially considering both wirt and sarah’s tendencies to frame themselves as victims as their respective worlds and having to take responsibility for their actions (and respective siblings), and i think both protagonists can be quite disadvantaged by viewers not taking in more of the given context about their lives, considering they also both have a ton of revealing information about themselves through their bedrooms which translate quite well and aaa you definitely already know this but im just so passionate about that movie and this show and seriously this is such an interesting analysis and i will definitely be forcing my partner to watch this too >:0 <3 keep up the good work!!!!

I certainly wouldn’t mind joining the Eraserhead cult. I don’t care how ugly Spike (as far as I’m concerned, it was the name given by stage crew, not 100% sure) was, but he deserves the world. I was rather saddened to see him suffer and then be brutally killed. Can't really add anything to religious part for proper discussion, because I've never attended Sunday school in the first place. So I just gonna say that you have a soothing voice, good sense of humor and a clear way of speech - all in all, perfect! At least for me.
