Thankfully there are still people who dedicate themselves to providing appropriate stats for games in the competitive ladder setting. We know Zed is the best standard champion, we know Arilia is one of the best eternal champions. But I do see a day when that's gone and then LOR will finally heave it's last breath. Because nobody cares about or likes card piles, because deep down everyone knows they are bad statistically even if they are too lazy to measure it.

So yeah apparently this live stream 5 minute brew was used as inspiration for a top tier standard deck. So apparently I should keep doing these so they can get stolen weeks later and slap everyone in the face on ladder.

It is legitimately funny that a guy who just climbs to top 100 masters on weekends, not only has some of the most influential eternal decks, but has also inspired a mid tier standard deck. Like I don't even view that as real LOR but okay, feel free to grab more of my ideas if they all slap.
@EternalKing-LegendsOfRuneterra9 күн бұрын
It's pretty important to remember that LOR is not a new game, Eternal specifically is not new. The last player to have a meta game impact was me with the addition of major story additions to Azir Irelia being the the most played deck in the format, and then updating Majin Bae's Ryse. If there are any major shifts come December when ladder unlocks I'd love to see it, I'd love to see someone who isn't me have a major impact. It just hasn't happened.

You have essentially two goals starting out to hit Eternal mastery. Play anti-tempo (control) against the AI and win 100% of games. Play tempo (aggro) against the AI and win 100% of games. This will typically translate into an 80% winrate in PVP once you have adequate experience with both.

0:40 Kennen Ezreal with Kinkou Wayfinder! Ofc you can drop it and also put Dancing Droplet/Shimon Wind (or maybe both), but for now I'm trying this version of the deck to have better chances of getting Kennen, bc the deck literally doesn't do anything without him or Ezreal in the late game!

18:10 Why not pull the Grenadier there? Yeah, he had Transfusion anyways and he could have considered value blocking with Crimson Disciple and deal 1 damage to your Nexus, but then he would be dead by double Doombeast or Doombeast+Nocturne's Unspeakable Horror! Yeah, 1 damage to your Nexus would have mattered if you were lower hp, but 13 health is quite a lot! And even if you were lower hp, out of all things he could have had, you definitely wouldn't have expected Transfusion from him (or at least I wouldn't have expected that card) making it guaranteed that if he doesn't have a buff, he just loses on the spot, because the Disciple can't block anything! Yeah, he could have had Brothers Bonds, but with that card your opponent can only consider value blocking against the Moonlit Glenkeeper and then he just dies to one Doombeast if he does that!

That Kennen Ezreal deck with Tellstones when they were released would have probably been the best version of itself (or if that didn't happen, then maybe people would have tweaked the deck until someone found the best 40) if the Ionian Tellstones wouldn't have been "reworked" ! I know that the same argument still applies, but without the old Ionian Tellstones it's even harder to build and find the best version of Kennen Ezreal! Also, Kennen was reverted after he got buffed. Probably an anti-tempo version like your Ryze deck could work, but you don't have a lot of slaying power against aggro decks! You also can't run Dancing Droplet if you run Wayfinder, bc you always want to pull Kennen!
@EternalKing-LegendsOfRuneterraАй бұрын
Yeah, like I'm far more interested in what's gonna work now. I love dusting off old archetypes Swim Elusives, Thralls, Burn Aggro, Spawn, Ryse, Ramp, and the thing is that I can still consistently steal wins with these archetypes by running the best possible version. I'd like to think that version exists for all archetypes, it's just that I can't possible find them for every single deck myself.

I think it`s interesting. For one I`d like to state that while I am also a former PvP player who stopped playing after the layoffs, I have to be fair: when people like us talk about LoR and LoR being dead we talk about Path of Champions like it`s this silly gimmick that was around a bit and the reality is more players played PoC than PvP and for quite a lot of people the new focus is a win. And there is an objective part in me that is glad that PoC gets turned from a quality half measure hidden behind a PvP card game into its own stand alone solo game with full mechanics and progression. In essence, LoR isn`t dead, It`s the game formerly known as Path of Champions and PvP is the ´for fun side thing that just kinda exists´. That being said players like us still lost a dynamic PvP game we liked. I think it`s really cool if a community of true hardcore fans find themselves and there is a charm in a community so small and intimate everybody knows each other. It`s personally not for me simply because I don`t enjoy eternal formats. I don`t enjoy games that are all about popping off in a few turns and where the power level is so through the roof the games logic is "If everything´s broken nothing is!" I always enjoyed cooking and trying to make work funky themed decks and that`s just impossible in eternal formats where if you don`t do something incredibly busted you will get stomped. But I am curious as someone who is fully out: is there still a PvP LoR scene? how is it?

As far as I can tell this deck doesn't really have bad hand states into anything that players are going to be doing right now. I believe the updated sundisc hard runs 3 counters spells but everything else is mostly creature spam, or anti-tempo junk. All of which is famously terrible into ramp. So unless what people are playing changes next season this is just as capable as my other decks.

If you're wondering where Deny lands, there aren't any players running good spell based wincons except me right now in this format. i love dead games for that exact reason. everything is set in stone, no more power creep. i was recommended a video recently by a channel called sodatcg on how card games deal with power creep, and in it he, and a lot of people on the comments claimed that power creep is "fun" and "necessary". the problem is the "modern audiences" who can't hold attention for a month unless something new is printed. hypothetically there might be thousands of cards in a pool and entire unexplored archetypes but unless you keep printing more and more the zoomers will drop your game. the reason being, 95% of people netdeck, and because they netdeck they can't practice their deckbuilding skills so the majority of playerbase is stuck in a loop where the pros build a few meta decks, everyone spams them in every game, then people ask for buffs, nerfs and new cards even though 50% of cards that already exist are never played. i'm playing hearthstone rn (don't judge) and all i've said above is cranked up to 11 there. speaking of dead games, have you played mmdoc? this was a might n magic universe ccg by ubisoft. the game is actually dead, they shut down servers like 10 years ago. then a few years ago some russian guy literally hacked the client and made his own private server, believe it or not. i randomly found out when i was looking up some cards or something. the amount of playes online was somewhere between single digits to two dozen on sundays. and i've done exactly what you were talking about, i took a hero noone played and decided to make it work. since he made all the cards available i could freely experiment, i remember making a deck and thinking it's the best deck ever(it sucked), so i revised it and kept track by renaming the deck, v0.01, v0.02 etc. i think the final version was like 18 revisions, i went away from combo as the main wincon to having a few cards of it as an alternate, i added tech cards, removed them, i went through every single 3 drop that race had for there were no autoincludes and i was looking for a balance of stickiness and damage. this was the most fun ccg experience i've ever had, and it was possible only in a dead game. if i try to do this in hearthstone right now, the nex expansion is in 2 weeks and everything will get power crept so what's the point.
@leadpaintchips9461Ай бұрын
One of the issues is if a card game (or any pvp game in general) is 'solved', and it's an issue that designers have been fighting against for a while. This isn't a zoomer issue, this is an issue that happens with all games that have people chasing the edge. Unless the designers have a well balanced game with enough variety in gameplay, the meta will become stale. It's a lot of work to develop a game with that level of balance. Which is why we rarely ever see it (even back in the day) over games with power creep. Power creep is just easier to design around. It's easier to design instead of different play avenues.

It seems to me that these eastern European studios with a lot of obvious flair have had to operate under some unique constraints that kept them fairly lean, with very long lead times and a singular focus. You see how that can transition with CDPR, whose games used to be what I'd describe as top tier eurojank, albeit with a lot of vision and ambition, to now spinning lots of plates at once and having dev studios sprawled across two continents. I fear they may go the way of Bethesda, which I see as their nearest analog. And I wonder if this is just an inevitable consequence of capitalism compromising art, as it is wont to do.

Personally, I don't think there are many people left in the community that could sound off on other players pet decks card 4 card, because there was so much ego in general. The one good thing about LOR moving single player is really only the die hards are left holding up this house of cards.
