I live halfway across the country and stumbled upon this video. Very impressive how well a small group of only nine student actors did this production. Some productions have triple or quadruple the number of actors, which means that each one doesn’t have to memorize and act as many lines. This group also did it without the benefit of much of a set or props. Anyways, I like it better with less of a set and props because more of the focus is put on the message and the actors.

Despite how many years ago this production was, it’s still near and dear to my heart. I truly appreciate the kind words!

Why is there someone coaching them in the audience?!?! Let them do it themselves!
@FaithDErasmo6 жыл бұрын
Diamond Jones it’s called conducting you nitwit. Just like a conductor typically ensures the orchestra stays together, our conductor makes sure all of the kids stay on the music, as sometimes it’s difficult for them to hear the music onstage. Don’t make silly comments until you even understand what you’re criticizing.

Wow! That was very good! I have to say that, unlike "Annie," which was a musical I grew up with, and which I've actually seen on stage, I only got into "Seussical" a few years ago, and I've only seen it on KZbin. I always liked Dr. Seuss' books. My favorite book by him was "Horton Hears a Who," so it's no wonder why I like this musical so much. Its main plot is taken from that book. I kind of thought it was cheesy the first time I saw it that Horton and Mayzee and Gertrude didn't look a thing like elephants or birds. But then I realized what the play was supposed to be doing. It was encouraging audiences to use their imaginations, which is just what Dr. Seuss would have wanted! A little funny fact: The first time I ever watched "Seussical" on KZbin, the video I saw had Jojo be a girl instead of a boy. And I don't mean that it was a girl playing a boy. No, they actually changed the character to a girl for that production. The funny thing is, though I knew right away that Jojo was supposed to be a boy, I thought the character worked well as a girl. I ended up watching that particular performance on KZbin about twenty times before I decided to watch other productions of it. And then, when Jojo was a boy in those ones, it was kind of weird for me. I was so used to the version where Jojo was a girl. In fact, to this day, I'll be talking about this musical with people, and accidentally reef to Jojo as a "she." It just makes me laugh. I think the girl Jojo is the real Jojo. That said, I did like Jojo in this production, even though he was a boy. But hey! He's supposed to be a boy anyway! I think the actors did very well in this production. The singing was very good, and the casting was spot on! I especially liked the actors who played Gertrude, Mayzee, and the Wickershem Brothers. They looked like they were really having fun playing those characters! My only gripe about this production isn't really anybody's fault who worked on this production. It actually has to do with the people who made the edits to the junior version ow ever many years ago. You see, with "Annie," most of the edits actually worked in the play's favor because they kept the plot from being held up. But with "Seussical," it didn't work as well. They cut out the ENTIRE military subplot! Their reasoning for it was because they didn't want to have military in a play that kids were involved in (or so I've heard). But come on! It's Dr. Seuss! If he thought military was inappropriate for kids, he wouldn't have written "The Butter Battle Book." Plus, without the military subplot, it cuts out a HUGE chunk of character development for Jojo. But, like I said, it isn't really anybody's fault who was involved with this production. And quite honestly, if the military subplot had NEVER exiisted, even in the original version, I would never have complained about it, because it's not a cut that will make you think something is lacking unless you already know that it's supposed to be there. So I don't really mind it too much. Truth be told, I already knew this would be the junior version when I started watching it. So I didn't mind at all, because the video was EXACTLY what the title said it was. "Seussical JUNIOR," NOT "Seussical." I really hate when people watch a video, knowing full well that it's not going to be exactly what they want, and STILL hit the "dislike" button! Come on people! The video is exactly what it says it is. If they wanted to see the full version of "Seussical," they should have punched THAT into the search bar instead! This production was great! I really don't have much to complain about. Yes, the military subplot was missing, but that's because it's "Seussical JUNIOR." I really enjoyed watching this! And I hope other people enjoyed it too.
