I'm god's strongest web woods fan, honestly this long, grueling level with Forest Interlude playing in the background just puts the player in this kind of zen state that makes it unlike any other. Maybe I just can't be mad playing any level with Forest Interlude in it. But I think it's actually one of the best. And I feel the same way about Snow Barrel Blast, I just like the long difficult levels with good music. Shoal Atoll can suck my dick though.

I really like colonel pluck himself, it’s a real shame that feather fiend kinda stinks. Returns probably has my favourite boss roster in the series too. Maybe if he was 5 times faster the boss could’ve worked, but even then there’s so many better things they could’ve done with his design, I mean he’s literally a chicken in a giant mech! Funnily enough you’re not the first person to comment something like this, a lot of people seem to really like colonel pluck! Just a shame he’s not remembered more fondly because of his boss

Happy I could make your day a little better! Now I know that returns is definitely the way to go for me, as it looks absolutely amazing. What kind of content are you planning to make next?
@OGAutismonaut5 күн бұрын
@Party_FruitI'd definitely recommend returns if you enjoyed Tropical Freeze, it's quite similar in terms of controls and there's some great levels in there too, one of my favourite platformers for sure! The older games are great too, a bit more of a learning curve if you're not used to the more cruel design in places, but Tropical Freeze in particular takes quite a lot of inspiration from the second game so there's a good chance you'd like those as well if you're interested. I'm currently making a video on M+L Brothership right now, just because that series is like my original childhood games and I never thought we'd get another one after Alphadream shut down. I really wanted to play it but also didn't want to wait another 6 months between uploading videos since work keeps me pretty pinned down as it is, so I thought it'd be a great idea to use my time playing it to make a video at the same time. The script is almost finished for it now, I've also just been asked if I want to take part in a collaboration video too so if that goes ahead then I'll probably be working on that before so I don't hold things up for anyone else. Anyway, really appreciate the high praise, hopefully I can get some free time at the end of this week and get something out relatively soon!

@OGAutismonaut12 күн бұрын
Oh nah, I haven’t used super Kong since I was like 7 lol. I tried using my own footage for dk returns but it didn’t look very good unfortunately, I’ll have to get a capture card that works properly at some point since my current one seems to be a little broken with certain consoles. The best looking footage I could find for DK returns was from TheGamerBay, he’s the only person I’ve seen who uploaded the game in 1080p 60fps, but as much as I appreciate the super high quality of his gameplay, he’s not exactly the best at some of the harder levels, so he used super Kong for quite a few of them. I would definitely have tried to find replacement videos, but I was quite pressed for time when I was making the latter parts of the video, so delaying it any more would probably have ended up affecting the quality of the final few parts. Hopefully it isn’t too distracting, I don’t want to give off the impression that I’m talking about levels I haven’t even properly played!

@@OGAutismonaut Thank you for the detailed explanation. It's perfectly understandable that you didn't find time to search for other footage when you were under time pressure and that you prioritised maintaining a high quality instead. Hi! First-time classic Donkey Kong Country player here. I played Tropical Freeze a few years ago and absolutely loved it, and just a few days ago, I decided I'm going to try to play the classic trilogy on NSO in preparation for Returns HD. Do you have any tips and advice? Also, the video is wonderful! I'm still making my way through it, and admittedly skipping some parts to avoid spoiling myself, but I'm really enjoying watching it! Thank you for making this video!
@OGAutismonaut25 күн бұрын
Thanks so much for such a detailed comment! If I had one major bit of advice it’s that particularly in the first game there is a bit of a steep learning curve when you first start. The first world in dkc1 for example isn’t too bad, but when you get to the later levels some of them can be a bit unfair to a new player. The developers were still figuring out how to make a good donkey Kong game so there’s a few stinkers in there, but don’t be too discouraged if you reach a super annoying level, once you get the controls down the game becomes a lot easier! DKC2 is easily the hardest game in the series so watch out for some of the levels there. DKC3 is probably the easiest and has the smoothest difficulty curve too, the first two games can vary significantly in difficulty level to level. Just thought of this now too, going back to previous worlds in the second game is weird, you can’t just leave and go to the map, you either have to beat the world boss or pay funky to take you around. The collectibles work quite differently in the original trilogy to the modern games, for example you don’t need to get all the Kong letters to get extra levels, they just give you lives so unless you want 100% completion you don’t need to worry about them. In the second and third game you may want to collect kremcoins if you want to do the secret world, but if not there’s a dev code built in you can look up to get 99 of them immediately. Oh, and saving too, the save system especially in the first game sucks! It’s much easier just to use the NSO save states whenever you want to save, otherwise you’ll have to replay three or four levels to get back to where you were if you get a game over. The original games are similar to tropical freeze so you’ll definitely have an idea of what to expect, but there are a few differences particularly with the controls and obviously their age which you’ll find as you go through. Anyway, really glad you like video and good luck with the first three games! I found it really interesting playing all of them for the first time and seeing where one of my favourite video game series’ came from, so hopefully they’re just as good for you
@fgyjgtuugtt87225 күн бұрын
@OGAutismonaut Thank you so much! I really appreciate the advice! I started playing a few days ago, and just got to Poison Pond, and thought I might as well ask for advice before I go through the worst that DKC has to offer. Forgot to mention this in my previous comment, but your video was actually the tipping point to make me decide to play the classic DKC trilogy! I've been doing a bit of a retro Mario marathon, playing Super Mario Bros 1 (good), Lost Levels (bad), and Super Mario Advance 1 (great). Then I saw your video, watched some of it, and decided, "hey, this is great, but it'd be even better if I had context for anything other than Tropical Freeze" and decided to add the classic DKC games to my marathon. So thank you! I'm having lots of fun with DKC1 so far! With some exceptions, every level is fantastic! My favorite level so far is Oil Drum Alley. Also, sorry for all the questions, but should I also play the Donkey Kong Land games, since they're also on NSO, or should I skip them?
@OGAutismonaut25 күн бұрын
Wow, that means a lot hearing that my video made such an impression on you, thanks! Great to hear that you had a good time with the first game, personally I think the second one is even better. Unfortunately for the donkey Kong land games I actually haven’t played them so I’m not much help, as far as I know, they’re mostly very similar to the original games but with some different levels which from what other people have told me aren’t very good lol, although the first dk land does apparently feature the worst level in the series which does make me curious… They’re definitely not must plays or anything though. I really like oil drum alley too, I think I put it like in A tier or something, but this series is so good that every level up there is amazing. It actually sounds like you’ve been on a similar gaming progression to me, I also replayed all the old 2D mario games recently! Some of them like Mario land 2 I hadn’t played before so it was good to see where it holds up to the rest of the games. Maybe I’ll have to rank all of those at some point hmm… In the case that I do I’ll let you in on a quick preview and say that most of the lost levels stages wouldn’t rank very highly lol. Some other people don’t dislike poison pond as much as me so maybe it won’t be that bad for you, one can hope!

@@OGAutismonaut Hi again! Thanks for replying to my second comment! I actually finished both the rest of DKC1 and Donkey Kong Land 1 since my last comment! Whoever told you that DKL1 has the worst level in the series was right. I counted at least two levels that were just Poison Pond But Even Worse, to say nothing of that one level in World 3 with some of the most infuriatingly designed platforms to exist. However, I did have fun with DKL1 overall! There were some really creative levels in there. My favorite was the one where you had to collect the KONG letters to form platforms using them. I'd love to see a ranking video from you on 2D Mario levels! And yeah, Lost Levels...isn't very good. At all. And as for Poison Pond itself, while it was pretty bad, it wasn't as terrible as I was expecting, though maybe that's just due to my copius usage of savestates and the rewind feature. If you'd like to hear more of my thoughts on DKL1, I'd be happy to share! Thank you for taking the time to reply to my previous comments, and I hope you have a great day!

I wish Nintendo would just re-release physical collections of more of their game series like Donkey Kong. Also love long-form videos like this❤
@OGAutismonaut28 күн бұрын
Definitely, a lot of the bosses in tropical freeze have really cool concepts, but they just repeat way too much for me. If it were 2 hits per phase then it wouldn’t be nearly as much of an issue, Frederick has to be the biggest offender in this case. He stalls for so long before you get a chance to hit him and he’s hard too so you’ll be replaying each phase several times. It’s actually kinda strange how the series rarely seems to nail their bosses when almost every level turned out so good. I actually didn’t play dkc3 until this year, people always said to me that it wasnt very good, but I was pleasantly surprised when playing it at how good it was! And yeah it would be great to get more collections of Nintendos older games, having them on the switch online virtual console is good but I’d love to actually have a new copy of them. Even on the virtual console versions, for some games it almost seems like Nintendo are intentionally hiding them away which sucks considering how good some of those games are. I really hope the switch 2 has an actual decent virtual console where they add more than one game a week, but somehow unfortunately I doubt it. Anyway, thanks for leaving such a detailed comment, glad you enjoyed!

... I'd be the guy to defend Poison Pond. I like the premise of the theme, the green and misty water made my kid brain do the rest of the work properly, the mincers feel like bits of pollution from the factory, and I'm a lot fonder of DKC's water level physics than some other people, so to me it feels like a genuine test of skill since the level design always kinda enforced that you're supposed to expect off-screen stuff. Is it hard as nails? Yes. But it felt expected for the game, so I gave it a pass.
@OGAutismonautАй бұрын
That’s fair enough, I don’t absolutely hate the level necessarily, but I definitely don’t like it very much. @@Harley_Mitchelly I didn't find it quite as hard as some other people apparently do to be fair, that's probably because I played all the modern games first though. If it was the first level you beat and you found it easy then that's pretty impressive, at least coming from someone who would definitely have struggled if it was my first level I completed! Personally I found it to be a bit of a difficulty spike because its pretty fast with some jumps that seem a bit unintuitive at first, and especially the Krash enemies, they killed me a few times the first time I played. But then again a lot of people say the rocket barrel levels from the newer games are really hard which I find quite easy so maybe its just certain people being suited to a particular gameplay style

Thanks for leaving such a detailed comment, and thanks for watching this massive video all the way through too! With the other levels you mentioned in particular panicky paddles I can definitely understand someone else having a different opinion on them, heck it would’ve been a very boring video if everyone agreed with my picks. If I’d made this video a year earlier then panicky paddles would 100% have been in F tier because those water sections are awful! But on my most recent playthrough I didn’t hate it as much, maybe it’s just because I’ve memorised most of it by now so I don’t die as much but when I first played it I despised that level lol. Returns was the second game I ever played, and right from the beginning it became one of my favourites, and then tropical freeze came along and it was even better. Playing dkc2 especially it’s surprising just how well it holds up all these years later. Somehow I don’t think it’s a coincidence that with tropical freeze being heavily based on dkc2 that it ended up being so great. Anyway, glad you enjoyed!

@OGAutismonaut my pleasure! If you had the patience and skill to put out a video like this, sure this channel can be as big as you want if you can break this effort into smaller, more frequent videos 🤜

Someone may have told you this already, but baobabs are actually those big ol' trees with the wide trunks seen throughout the savanna world in Tropical Freeze; not the spiky fruits. Though I guess they're technically baobab fruits if they come from the trees themselves. Lol Also, the birds in Swoopy Salvo are called Swoopies. Though to be fair, that one could've been either of them with a name like that. :p
@OGAutismonautАй бұрын
You’re actually the first one to point this out, good to know! Mostly I look up the names of enemies because I think it’s interesting to see what they’re actually called, I didn’t think to do it with the birds because I’ve seen some other people call them salvos and just assumed that’s what they were. Most of the images of baobabs I looked up had both fruits and trees in them lol and I’d never heard of baobabs up until that point, but as you say I guess they are still baobab fruits!
@BradfortBottlenoseАй бұрын
@@OGAutismonaut Yeah, fair. To be honest, sometimes the Swoopy/Salvo thing still trips me up as well, lol. As for the baobab thing, I actually knew this lil fact from way back in the day at school when those trees came up, and how many people it'd take to circle a whole baobab tree. Lol Darn it. Your video has me wanting to play these games again. Maybe I will soon!

re: mr bleak, i believe youre breaking the device on his scarf thats keeping him together with the snowballs. makes sense considering its two apes throwing them at him
@OGAutismonautАй бұрын
Hadn’t noticed that until now! Definitely makes more sense than trying to kill a snowman by trying to throw snow at a snowman

I don't get the hate with Poisonous Pipeline. It makes a water level somehow challenging and fun, since you have to learn again how to play. DKC3 is by far the worst IMHO but this is one of the few instances where I think it went better than its predecessors.
@hsblw_6Ай бұрын
Same for the rocket level 😂 one of the few times I felt good playing DKC3
@OGAutismonautАй бұрын
Personally I don’t like that level very much lol, I get what they were going for with the controls switching but I’ve never really liked the water levels in this series too much to begin with and the controls reversing made it a bit much for me. But hey, if you liked it then more power to you! I never go into the levels hoping for them to be bad so if this one wasn’t to you then that’s a good thing With rocket rush I kinda see it as missed potential, because I think it could’ve been a great level if the controls worked as you’d expect, but at least to me they feel wonky and it’s also quite strange how sometimes it just shoots up for no reason. I usually love rocket levels too so I really wanted to like that one!

1:13:00 THIS this is the worst level by far. I was so pissed off by this N and the secret that I stopped playing the game for around a week until I had to courage to come back to it again. As boring as it gets
@hsblw_6Ай бұрын
1:13:40 no, i digress, THIS is the worst level EVER of any game in the history of games. Just awful. This elephant is the worst 😂

3:16:14 omg dude you can't be serious 😂😂😂 comparing this to web woods should be considered a kong heresy. Web woods is hard and brutal and this is the fun out of it. This one is just.. mehhh...

I love this video. I like poison pond. The checkpoint sucks though. That is all.

Thank you! I’m glad someone managed to enjoy poison pond more than me, one of my friends really likes poison pond too and he wasn’t too happy to see it at the bottom lol

I wish DKC2 had more Pirate ship levels, they're always my favorite levels
@OGAutismonautАй бұрын
It was definitely a really interesting way to open the game, ending where the first game left off. I’ve always really liked that about DKC2 and the early levels definitely feel more relaxing than the majority of the rest of the game lol. Plus the music and visuals for all of them are top notch

Seeing Lord Fredrik, THE FINAL BOSS being placed so low is comical haha. Such a shame that he is remembered by many as a disappointment to cap off one of the best games to exist. Not to mention he's been DK's most recent boss enemy for 10 years now. Funnily enough, I remember watching a video ranking every Donkey Kong boss, aaaaaand Fredrik was at #1... And I'll be honest, I'm one of the people who probably agrees with the latter opinion much more. I remember fighting Fredrik and thoroughly enjoying that fight. It felt like a fitting conclusion to Tropical Freeze and didn't feel like a letdown to me. That's why it kinda sucks that many don't see him that way, he must have left a sour taste in the mouths of many after playing through the masterpiece that is Tropical Freeze. Fredrik aside, my goodness. Near 6 hours of Donkey Kong Country. Sign me up. I can't begin to imagine just how much playing, working, clip finding, scripting, speaking, editing, analyzing, and thinking this must have taken. This video is a testament to your patience, skill, and pure dedication to video creation. What surprised me is how good the entire video simply was. The editing was done masterfully all the way through, and I found myself laughing and agreeing with some of your quips. Keeping that consistency up for a 6 hour video is nothing short of incredible. I can tell this must have been a tremendous undertaking, and I am so glad I managed to get this video on my recommended page. My sincere appreciation to you. side note: the mentions of geometry dash were like jumpscares to me cause i play that game way too much. absolutely did not expect to see it here haha
@OGAutismonautАй бұрын
Thanks for leaving such a detailed response! I’m glad someone managed to enjoy Frederick a lot more than me, I never go into a stage hoping for it to be bad so it’s great to finally see someone who liked the fight. Unfortunately everyone I know doesn’t like him very much lol. For me whenever I get to volcano dome I kinda just sigh and say to myself “do I really have to fight this guy?” If you didn’t have to beat him to unlock the secret levels I have to say I’d probably have stopped at meltdown mayhem on a few of my playthroughs. I don’t hate the fight to be fair, I think the arena looks really cool, but for me it goes on too long and repeats the same attacks too much which I don’t find to be very fun to dodge. Then again, like you say maybe that’s just because tropical freeze is such a stellar game that it would’ve been almost impossible to make a perfect ending for it. Thanks so much for all your support and taking the time to leave this nice comment, always good to see a fellow geometry dash enjoyer!

Awesome vid- love watching this in the background when playing games or working on stuff. Unrelated question, but what's the song at 1:55:40 in this segment? I can't for the life of me remember it and it's been stuck in my head for days lol
@OGAutismonautАй бұрын
Thanks so much! The song is switcheroo A (life in the mines returns) from Dk returns, probably my favourite song in the game, a shame every time I add it to a playlist Nintendo takes it down lol
