This is the Grateful Dead but the drones at Folsom was cool, although that second night of Drums and Space really sent me. You know you’re in tune with the music of the Dead when you dance the hardest during Drums and Space. I did that shit so much! I was in a groove the 2nd and 3rd night. Got shut out the first night. I never thought I would see the day when Dead and Co tix would be selling for $300. I think the most i paid for a further ticket was $80 and the most i ever paid for a Grateful Dead ticket was $50 and that was a New Years Eve ticket! I started seeing the Grateful Dead heavily in 1988 and I remember my first show was $21.50. It went up from there but not to the point it is now. And i used to complain about $50! I would have to have the reincarnation of Jerry come back from the rave to play a show in skeletal form for me to pay $300 for a show! But I’m still leaving Colorado on Wednesday and driving to SF for the final shows. I guess $200 a ticket is fine but 300 is a bridge too far! Lol

Wow, ok I came to tears hearing this... Jerry would have smiled to see the drone tech. Just one song I want to hear his voice again in a live venue...Eyes would be perfect!

I saw one of these drone displays a year or so ago. I think it was made over in China, rebroadcast on an Internet media outlet, and it was so well choreographed and orchestrated they could draw things in the sky... But since that time, I've been wondering how often UFO claims are actually kids playing with drones... Jest say'un...

For a brief moment I thought Dead and Company featured a vocalist last night who sounds eerily like Jerry. Then I looked at the date of the recording. How odd. But you were featuring the recent light show. I see.

Sorry! Just updated description. I took video from my home a mile from venue. Drone show was during drums/space and couldn’t hear much so I added some good old GD music to make the video more enjoyable.

So for context here - the band was doing an "all requests" set, and a kid in the audience requested Uncle John's Band. They originally said no since they didn't know it (literally had not heard it), but then in the spirit of the set offered to give it a try just based on the lyrics, with improvised music. This wasn't intended to be a faithful cover, or really a "cover" at all - it's a musical game where they try to improvise a new song set to existing lyrics. Don't compare it to the original, that's really not the intent here.
@mattemmer3072 жыл бұрын
I appreciate them giving it a try, but seriously, how does this group of roots-oriented musicians reach their respective ages and levels of musicianship without ever listening to the dead, unless there’s some major pretension and avoidance going on?

seriously how can you perfectly cover 2+2=5 by Radiohead and NOT know how to even play the BASIC form of UJB? it's fucking preposterous
@thejamnasium64472 жыл бұрын
look I know these guys are super talented and all that and yes I also know they're not good down home country boys they're all rich private school kids from New England but god damn man - how are you going to be in a legitimate bluegrass band and NOT know Uncle John's Band? it's a 3 chord slice of fucking AMERICAN PIE. I bet they don't know Ripple either. god damn shame. stick to the Radiohead covers boys. leave Jerry and Robert outta this.

it's a big wide world of music, dude. You could study for a lifetime and still not know the "standards" of every genre. Not everyone knows the same music you know.

Great Mandolinist! This song lyrically is about melancholy and humility. Needs some soul( Tedeschi/ Trucks) Perhaps “Bicycle Built for Two” has a more “frisky” feel. But hey…. he’s got plenty of chops.

1 part 16th note tremolo runs, 1 part arpeggios, and every 7th measure notes beyond the 12th fret, and you have 99% of Thile's solos. Where's the soul, boy genius?
