Great version of Jungle Land... Suki Lahav's violin is clearly what is missing from us Springsteen fans undisputed sentimental favorite ... just saying

lol surprised Bossman didn’t get Clarence to get him a sammich. How painful to watch Clarence doing nothing, playing nothing, meaning nothing. Hurts my heart. Happy Juneteenth.

Not the kindest eulogy. But very honest. Harry Chapin would have respected that.

Bruce's guitar sounded great that night (as usual) and this recording comes very close to representing that awesome tone he could wring out of that Les Paul/Marshall setup. I was there and Steel Mill blew the doors off Cactus and Black Sabbath.

This is Jungleland if it was an E Street Shuffle track, it has some Thundercrack/Zero & Blind Terry/Kitty's Back feel to it! I've always found the transition between The E Street Shuffle and Born To Run quite fast and abrupt, it's amazing to hear how the intermediary stage sounded, it makes me better understand how Bruce gradually shifted from the jazz rock style of '73 to the thicker, epic heartland rock style of '75.

Yes, I also really like this version, since it has quite a different vibe and passion than what ended up on the record. I also find the different lyrics interesting :)

So what makes this version the "complete take" ?
@FelicitasRockawaythedays5 ай бұрын
It's called the complete take, since other recordings are incomplete. The album/bootleg artwork pictured in the video also states this

This progression can be heard on Party Lights. Bruce changed the progression to what's on the rehearsal tapes for the studio recording. Such a shame he did not release it.

Lyrics from Springsteen lyrics.com:My name is James Lucas I was born in Remington And paroled from Richfield Prison In the winter of '81 I was free and on the streets of Indiana I'd just turned 32 Same man with nowhere left to run No different, sir, than you Me and Pat, we married in the spring Moved in with her Ma and Pa On our wedding night she sighed, "Jimmy, We can have anything we want." It was for those things we wanted We worked as hard as two people could But somehow in the end, mister, This didn't do no good The prison got me drivin' delivery For Mr. Wills over in Ridgeside Well, I started loadin' a little extra And I'd sell it on the side I didn't like what I was doin' I didn't lose no sleep at night Mr. Wills, he was a rich man He'd been a rich man all his life I was on the loadin' dock one evening When I heard the warehouse phone The dispatcher said, "Jim, they wanna see you In the front office 'fore you go home." All Mr. Wills said was, "I don't understand. I could send you back to Richfield fast. If you needed some extra money, Jim, All you had to do was ask." Well, that night me and Pat, we had a fight I was out drivin' 'round in the rain With a fifth of gin and a half-tank of gas And ten dollars to my name I passed a deserted liquor store Way out on Highway One I turned and pulled into that parking lot Got out but I let my motor run Well, I stood lookin' in the window For a long, long while When I walked in the man behind the register He looked at me and smiled "That's some weather we're havin' out there. Can I help you find somethin', friend?" I didn't answer, I just stood there Then I turned and went I don't know how long I sat in my driveway My shirt was covered in sweat The house was dark when I went in Pat was lyin' awake in bed She hit the light, I was standin' in the doorway She said, "I was worried, where you been so long?" I felt her arms around me She said, "Jimmy, I'm so glad you're home." Richfield Prison stands on a high hill Where the county line runs out And there's a whistle that blows every time a man comes in Or a man gets out At night we lay wrapped in each other's arms Listenin' to the rain I heard that Richfield whistle blowin' Just blowin' in my dreams

How many unreleased songs does Springsteen actually have?
@FelicitasRockawaythedays11 ай бұрын
That's a good question and hard to answer: There's the Lost Masters, Deep Down in the Vaults, Before the Fame, and The Backdoor Tapes as Bootlegs, to mention just a few. Some songs of which have been released on the Promise or Tracks or recently on Letter to You. These are only the songs that somehow or other started circulating as bootlegs. How many other songs there are, that we do not even know, can be anyone's best guess...

I used to see Child and later Steel Mill regularly in Richmond in '60, 70, 71. To this day one of the best bands I've ever seen. I used to sit there and wonder why I wasn't familiar with any of the songs, assuming the were playing covers, which is all I was used to. It never occurred to me that this skinny 20-year-old dude in front of me wrote them himself. And for people who like guitar shredders, he is as good as any and all of the big names to this day. Their shows just left us stunned by how good these 4 kids were.
