A bigger problem w/Dr Shiva's analysis is his incorrect assessment that Malcolm stopped asserting his black nationalism. For example, in an exchange on a New York City radio show three days before his death, Malcolm remarked: “If you think that nationalism has no influence whatsoever, the nationalists, the Organization of Afro-American Unity, are having a rally at the Audubon Ballroom” (Breitman, 1965, p. 181). These are hardly the comments of-or the context for-someone reticent to associate himself with black nationalism. Also, you didn't have to be black to recognize the importance of black nationalism in fighting white supremacy in the US--and many revolutionary supporters of black nationalism were white--there were even white members of the Black Liberation Army. Finally, Dr. Shiva is incorrect that "we/they" still don't know who killed Minister Malcolm: he was killed by 5 members of the NOI and we have that info from the mid-1879s by one of the killers who was caught by the crowd at the Audobon, f/n Talmadge Hayer. They include Hayer/Hagan and Leon Davis (both with pistols), William Bradley (who had the shotgun), Wilbur McKinley (who threw the smoke device as a distraction), and Benjamin Thomas.
