how did yo uset the pan pastels collage pieces before tearing--did you use fixative?
@DeboraStewart13 күн бұрын
I did not use fixative but you could. Pan pastel is very thin application so I just applied clear gesso over it directly.

I absolutely love this idea Debora! I did a life drawing in the 80s using this method, and it was hysterical! - It was of a male, and let’s just say certain parts of his anatomy were anatomically impossibly high! 😂🤣 - Best drawing I’ve ever done. I’ve just had a life changing event happen (fire) and am gathering myself together, completely starting my life again, from scratch. My natural style is ultra realism, which I find relatively easy, but a big part of me has been wanting a change, and do loose florals, and incorporating pastels, which I’ve never used before, but have been gathering over the last month. I also love gold, so will incorporate that somewhere, no doubt. I’m on a very interesting journey and I just love the looseness of these drawings. I can’t wait to play.

Hi, sorry to take up more of your time, but may i ask, could I use a gloss or satin medium over carcoal lines instead of matt, if I want to preserve the sheen of my acrylics? im also wondering if after i apply the medium over the charcoal, and later on then decide I want to add more charcoal lines to the painting ... should I then apply some liquitex clear gesso over the areas that i know I will be applying the charcoal? That is as long as its ok to apply clear gesso over acrylic medium?. I made the mistake today of applying clear gesso over a painting i did yest using acrylic and charcoal. I totaly smudged it! lol!. i forgot it shudve been an acryl medium used. luckily i got a cool looking effect out of it. Ha!
@DeboraStewart4 ай бұрын
Basically, I use clear gesso for my pastel paintings. My advice is for you to experiment on small canvases to see if the gloss or satin medium works the way you wanted it to.

I would have just scraped all of that off and started over, since your previous work was already dry. I don’t know if it would have all come up, but the pale bubble wrap might have. That first gold organic paint applied with the waxed paper was perfection and I am definitely going to be using that method on my own work.
