This video is so helpful! Thank You! This will be my first year homeschooling my Kindergartener and while I’m so excited, I’m also pretty nervous. This curriculum looks pretty legit, though, and if a math teacher says she recommends it above all others, then i know it’s going to be great. Btw…I have never heard of Saxxon Math (I’m new to all of this). While I was listening to your video, I was in the other room grabbing some laundry and heard you say something like, “I know mothers just love Saxxon Math…” I literally stopped what I was doing and said out loud, “WHAT did she just say?” 🤣 You sound like you may have a Midwestern accent to boot, so it reeeally sounded like…something else to me. K, enough about that. Again, thanks for the video and we can’t wait to get started! Take care!

You made me laugh! Thank you so much! You're so funny! :-). And yes, I'm from the MidWest ;-). GOOD for you for starting homeschooling! It's definitely a journey, but not one you'll ever regret!! This program is GREAT! I have a video on an English program that's AMAZING too! So be sure you look that up through my channel. Sorry that my blog link doesn't work anymore. I stopped using that site. But the videos say it all!

Thank you for this video. I’m starting my homeschooling journey with my third grader this year and I’m in between Dimensions Math and Right start math. How has your oldest been doing in math after doing right start math? My son is still not fluent in his math facts and he doesn’t love math either so I’m trying to find him a program that will make math easier for him. I guess my struggle comes with not knowing if right start sets a great foundation for pre- algebra and algebra.

Of course! I'm glad it helped!! So my oldest and my middle have "graduated" beyond Right Start Math now. Both are doing really well in their comprehension and understanding of math concepts. My oldest just finished this year in Geometry and my middle did pre- algebra this year. I've been VERY happy with RSM!!

I hear ya on the budget! Here's the thing... I've spent about 4 years bouncing around with other math programs because I didn't want to pay $300 up front for RightStart. Well, $50-65 for CLE here, $55 for Simply Charlotte Mason (plus another $20 or so in supplies) there... Adds up! And now I'm selling it all on eBay and plan on buying RightStart anyway because my second kid is a VERY hands-on, right-brained learner... I could have spent that 3 years ago and avoided a ton of struggle with him, and saved a lot of money AND headaches! Just my two cents. I am notorious for trying to save money and then ending up paying more in the long run. Math or otherwise...

I love your energy and passion for this! I just bought the first three levels and manipulatives kit. So excited to teach my kids this program. It was so heartbreaking to see my daughter struggle through common core math and go from grade to grade with huge learning gaps. I had planned to homeschool in a few years, but with COVID and seeing all the math gaps that my daughter has, that plan has been moved up.

Thank for this review! We’ve been using Horizons and my daughter doesn’t like it too well so I was looking for a new 3rd grade math and found your helpful review. Does the level D teacher manual tell you which math card game to use for which lesson? And if starting out with 3rd grade/level D, are you required to get all the manipulatives? TIA!
@ErinGrieger4 жыл бұрын
Oh I'm so glad it was helpful for you! YES! In each level, the lesson will tell you exactly which game to play. You definitely want to get the 2nd edition, I feel it's laid out much nicer and easier to follow than the 1st edition. The manipulatives come as a bundle. What's nice about them, is you will use them for every level. I found out the hard way my first year and tried to piece it all together. It was much more economical to get it in the bundle. PLUS the bundle comes with the math games book. Here is my other video on the manipulatives. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2iqe2ZvgpWgg9E You can find the manipulative set here if you want to check it out: rightstartmath.idevaffiliate.com/idevaffiliate.php?id=122&url=51 Do you have other questions too?

Hi ... thanks for sharing. I am debating between Logic of English and All About Reading/Spelling. If you are familiar with both how would you compare them? Also once you finish Foundations A-D do you have to do Essentials A or are Level A-B just a review of Foundations? How teacher intensive are the lessons? Did you finish Both Foundations and Essentials? If so, what are your final thoughts? Did you dona video on them? Thanks.
@ErinGrieger5 жыл бұрын
Hey Lynn! Sorry for the delay, I was out of town with my family! Unfortunately I do not have personal experience with All About Spelling. I only remember another mom mentioning to me that All About Spelling didn't have the English grammar portion. Not sure how accurate that is. Sorry! But I can answer your other questions!!! ...... When we finished Foundations A-D, we did move onto Essentials. We've been through Essentials Lesson 26. There is a review section in Essentials IF you have NOT done Foundations. I skipped that since we had done Foundations. Essentials is definitely a step up from Foundations, not review. Essentials has them identify parts of speech, morphemes, spelling, and advanced phonograms. We didn't fully finish Essentials (all but a few lessons) because my oldest daughter moved into our Classical Conversations (CC) Essentials program at 4th grade. (Different program same name!) Logic of English (especially the Essentials) FULLY prepared my daughter for the CC Essentials program. The CC Essentials program is focused on sentence structure/diagraming, writing papers and spelling. GREAT question! So personally I didn't think they were teacher intensive because I was a teacher before having kids. So to me that meant having to prepare lesson plans and get a bunch of things ready prior to the lesson. You do not have to do that with LOE! You can just open the book and go. I LOVE that. However, other moms have told me they think it is teacher intensive in terms of the fact that you have to walk your child through it. I just thought that was part of homeschooling in general! So it doesn't bother me. I like that the book tells me exactly what to say, how to play the games, do the activities in the workbook, etc. It's definitely interactive for your child. The lessons grow with each level, but so does your child. We do about 30 min of English and if I need to break up a lesson, then I do. Overall, I LOVE Logic of English!!!! Personally, I'm a math person and was nervous about teaching English Language Arts. But through this program, not only have my daughters learned a lot, but so have I!! I truly believe this program has given them an AMAZING foundation for spelling, writing and having fun learning!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!! I have not done a specific video on Foundations or Essentials....yet. Would a specific level be helpful for you? I do want to do some! PLEASE keep me posted with other questions or feel free to email me too if that's easier for you!!

Oh thank you so much Margaret!! I appreciate your comment! GREAT question! Actually I asked Right Start Math the same question. Here's what they sent me summer of 2018..... "After Level F we have our Level G and Level H. The Level G will be available this summer 2018 and Level H will be available summer 2019. The Level G & H is your math with a Geometric approach, so you will be doing a lot of Geometry in both Levels. Level F is 5th grade, Level G is 6th grade and Level H is 7th grade. We do advice you to go to the VideoText Algebra when finished with Level H. VideoText will cover your Algebra HighSchool and then they do have Geometry HighSchool. You can purchase the Algebra thou us but would need to purchase the Geometry thou them. However, we do recommend starting pre-Algebra in the Level H. We do not have the specific details of how to do that just yet as Level H is still being written."

@Mack if you really want to stick w/ MUS.. I highly recommend you contacting them if you haven't already. And IF there is a worksheet, it's only 1 page. My kindergartener only had 20 worksheets the WHOLE YEAR! I don't know if you can still send me your notes, as I would love to get started ASAP, but getting used to having a new baby has left me with little time to read it. Everytime I sit and get trough a couple of pages, the baby cries, fuzzes, needs to be fed or I am too exhausted. I want to continue reading the book as I do enjoy reading the psychology and the history behind why things are to be done the way they should and why it has been done the way they have, so if possible, I would really appreciate it!
