Am I supposed to separate each floss? Each strand separate?
@michelleannewood
@michelleannewood 7 ай бұрын
For appliqué.. you’ll use 1 strand. For embroidery stitches you’ll use 2 mostly. Sometimes or 3 . I separate the floss from the 36” of 6 strands as I need it. I usually stitch with pieces no longer than 18”. Less knotting and tangles this way. 🙂 Hope this helps.

I love how you go back through and make a knot to secure the sequins in case one comes loose. Very few people realize how much time and patience that little practice saves in last-minute repairs! I also love how you hand sew them for the same reason. They make presser feet for sewing machines and little feeders for pre-strung sequins and beads, but the ones I've seen just sew around the beads and sequins, only securing the thread that strings the beads together to the fabric. What a disaster such a thing could present! There are no shortcuts with projects like these! It's so good to see someone who knows and understands the value of hand-sewn detail work like this!

Another question please. Doing a lot of these stockingsand finding sometimes short of sequins. Company will send more but takes along time. Do you know of any stores that carry them or somewhere online. Can't find them with beads,to attach them
@michelleannewood
@michelleannewood 9 ай бұрын
You can find sequins at any craft store. 5mm slightly cupped is what comes in the kits. Beads are size 10/0 . But, 11/0 does work and are easier to find in stores. Online.. a lot of people that I know of buy Cartwright sequins. 🙂

@@JudyKeller-m3y , I made the model on the kit cover for this one. So , I don’t have a finished photo of my own. The kit comes with pellon for the back. You cut the pellon by using the front of the wall hanging as the template. Best to do that right after you cut out the front … before any thing else. Then when the front is completely done… just stitch the pellon to the back. If I make this for myself… I’ll most likely cut felt for the backing 🙂 It’s a very pretty kit! I hope you love it.

I use 4lb Crystal Fireline to sew 99% of my stockings. The line is clear and disappears into the felt. I never see the line unless my stitches are too big. Changing threads is no usually necessary. The other thing I do is use #11 Miyuki Delica beads - silver lined - in the colors the sequins are. The clear beads supplied are not good - broken and a lot of them drilled too small for a beading needle to go through. I love the dressed up hang tag you do! Imma steal that idea! 🙂

I wanted to do the Elegant Stocking. It is a white on white Father Christmas with semi-quilted running lines sewn with a metallic thread. I am going to have to scrape around 30 squares with each square having four unique dashed lines for over 120 tiny lines. Then, I get to sew without the guidelines. I do not recommend this pattern. It is going to be a real headache. Better to have a pattern on the back side and a light box to shine through. I may try to redo the whole stocking with unmarked white felt picked up at JoAnn's.

Hi Michelle, I just found you and subscribed. I was wondering where you posted the finished stocking here and the pics of her grandkids with all their stockings? I would love to see them! I LOVE that she wants all the embellishments rearranged and reconfigured!! I am doing my very first kit for my first granddaughter. I did custom velvet stockings for my three grandsons, the most recent of which was a couple years ago. My grandmother made mine and my siblings’ stockings in this tradition, velvet outer with many felt and sequined adornments with a contrasting satin lining. My sister’s is 67 years old now, mine is 64 and my brother’s is 61. All three are still just gorgeous! (My brother’s had to have a new satin lining at some point because he left an orange in the toe when he was little!! EW!) Anyway, I made my oldest grand’s with a gaming theme, and his younger brother’s with a monster truck theme, and my youngest grandson’s with a toy theme. But for my first and only (so far) granddaughter I went with a Bucilla kit, “A Christmas Skate”. I’m putting the various parts and pieces on a blue-velvet-with-lamé-stars sky background and plain blue velvet base stocking with a pink or burgundy satin lining (still trying to decide). I wish I had found your channel before I got started but I am SO thrilled I did now since I am still in the making of it! At your inspiration I may have to go back and re-think all three of my grandsons’ stockings now!! I am so very thankful for your tips and techniques! Your work (and sewing room) is beautiful!! Thanks!

I’m somewhat new to this, I’ve made about 10 stockings. I’ve yet to have the front match the back and always end up trimming the back to match. Is that normal or am I doing something wrong? Thank you
@michelleannewood
@michelleannewood Жыл бұрын
I never trim the back piece. Remember, when you first cut out the front and back pieces , they are the same size. Even if you have to piece together the front of the stocking. It still is the same size as the back. When you stitch the pieces to the front , the front will appear to shrink s bit. But , when you stitch the front and back together , that front will stretch to fit the back. Hope this helps 🙂

I'm using the dream wool batting for the snowman body on my stocking. Here's my problem: I cut the felt piece carefully, just inside the lines, but when placing the felt piece over the batting to pin down, I found that the felt piece was much bigger than the lines on my stocking front. I kind of obsessed with sewing directly on the lines, but now the piece pooches out a little in an empty way like it should have more stuffing. Should I have trimmed the piece to lie flat and match the lines on the stocking front before sewing?
@michelleannewood
@michelleannewood Жыл бұрын
Hi Mary, Cutting just inside the lines is recommended. After you add the batting to the felt and pin the piece to the base of the stocking. It may look odd. But, once you stitch it down, it should look like it is supposed to🙂
