I think Saint Patrick’s Saltire, while nowhere near perfect, is a compromise and a (relatively) neutral flag compared to the other options it’s my understanding churches allow that flag so it isn’t too contentious by comparison

From what I heard, the Russians did not care about the flag. They had the Tsar Symbol. But the Dutchman delivering the ships gave a strong suggestion that they would need a flag that would show their bought ships as Russian on the seas. And they were like, whatever. And they rearranged the colours.
