Thanks to the Dallas Symphony, chorus, soloists and organist, and in particular Fabio Luisi for making this magnificent performance of one of the greatest choral works available. Robert, Aberdeen, UK.

Olga is black! This is just ridiculous! There were no black people in monarchical Russia in and around Saint Petersburg-neither among the nobles nor among the serfs. It's just a fact! Can't you guys keep your political correctness away from opera, at least?

What's the point singing it in Russian? Why not translate lyrics into the singers' first language? Their accents sound really silly to a Russian ear! In the very end the key phrase of the whole opera "My horrible lot!" he pronounced as "My hot lot!"

This music was published in 1953, after Stalins death. But partly written before Stalins death. Can you imagine how it was to be out of favour by Stalin? I have read a little about it in the book "The Noice of Time" by Julian Barnes. Shostakovich had almost all his life to struggle against the dictator Stalin. Also a dictator about music. And I think this struggle also can be heard in his music.

Your comment nailed it! The book was also really good. Poor Shostakovich... The symphony is one his greatest and one of my favorites. And at the end it repeats the D(E)SCH motive which resembles Dmitri Shostakovich. It's like: Stalin is dead. I have survived along with my music, along with my art!

Le Sacre du Printemps is a ballet and orchestral work by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky. A masterpiece of musical energy, the composition shows an absolutely prodigious network of inventiveness. From the synthesis of all the musical elements operated by Stravinsky is born an aesthetic multiplicity which intensely privileges the acoustic effects and the dramatic force. « The sacral dance » (Allegro moderato), Act 2, Scene 6, is the culmination of the piece, the moment that illustrates the original idea of its composition, this dance where the brutal force of a symphony orchestra explodes, treated in a style revolutionary. The composition which has exacerbated the chromaticism to the highest point, the harsh harmonies, the raw sonorities, are born from the creation of powerful instrumental blocks, that clash or complement each other, the richness of timbres of an enlarged orchestra as well as the use of playing modes that push the sounds to the extreme, emancipating the rhythmic and releasing the tonal harmony from its classico-romantic pivots. Stravinsky juxtaposes and accumulates his musical ideas in contrasting flows, which interact with each other and create a perpetual increase in the energy released, which will crystallize an innovative approach essential to the modernity of 20th century music. The celebrity of the work does not hesitate to make it one of the pillars of musical modernism. Beautiful aesthetic! *Lucien*
