Wrong. After use, oil pools in the lower cylinders of radials. If the oil is not removed from the cylinders they engine could at worst have hydraulic lock and bend the rods, or at minimum could foul the spark plugs. Turning a radial over before startup allows the oil to escape past the valves and out the exhaust. The engine can then be started.

Not sure if is a similar problem on these engines in tanks, but in aircraft the lowest cylinder could be prone to leaking oil building up, and swinging the prop was a way to check for hydraulic lock before the starter was engaged

correct 100%.

Yes, they used the same type radial engine as used in aircraft. The old Sherman's used the Continental licensed version of the Wright R975 radial. There were 4 different engines in use in the Sherman's but that was the only radial.

0:38, Do you know the scoop about the damaged Sherman on the trailer? Will it be completely restored, or simply preserved as is? Or is it actually in operating condition? Every video I've seen of the 80th DDay Anniversary; it's on that trailer and being towed along.
@Gadjahmerah2 ай бұрын
According to my brother (he was at A&E) the Sherman on the trailer has a fibre glass turret. It will probaly be restored in running condition. It is now a empte shell with a peppered left side. Not sure if a original turet will be placed on top of it.

No idea what you said at the start or at the end, but the vehicles in the show were great. What area of the UK was this held in?
@teyvehiclerestorations48782 ай бұрын
So we can improve the videos why couldn’t you understand what we said at the start and the end. The show was in Dorset
@jeffdayman81832 ай бұрын
@@teyvehiclerestorations4878 Thanks for letting me know where it was. The sound level was extremely low to start with, even with my headphones turned way up when you were talking. Also, to my Canadian ears the narrator's accent makes it very difficult to understand. Closed captioning was confused by it too, and did not give intelligible words. Some simple white captions under the picture, like "Armour and Embarkation Rally, Dorset England" would have really helped. Captions of the vehicle types would be useful too. With the amphib vehicle in the water I think it may have been a DUKW but with no side or front pic, how would we know? Thanks.

One of 20 vehicles which came into the uk in 1994 via pounds of portsmouth after being surplussed as training vehicles by portugal...the portuguese demilatarized them by torching off the barrel and chucking it in the hull....price to the uk public in 1994 was £4,000 each and they all quickly vanished into collections to resurface on the reenactor and movie scene repainted as ww2 us army sherman tanks,but the cdp tracks give away its canadian origins....still cheaper than a proper us built sherman.

At :31 you're in the TC's position, and your camera person is in the loader's spot. Otherwise, nice job! Some differences between US and British crews in jobs and fire commands, but again, well done.
