Interesting to start in the upper register. I like to start at the 1st position (3rd fret) then work up (but I also only have 1 bass with 24 frets [Streamer Stage II]). There are so many great songs in bass clef that transfer well to bass guitar in Bach's Six Suites for violoncello solo: Suite 1: this; Courante; Menuets 1&2. Suite 2: Menuet I (my all time favorite, apart from this prelude). Suite 3: Bourees 1 & 2. There's more, of course. Been playing em since high school (25+ years), and use that book to stay up to date on sight reading sheet music. It's nice to see you reading sheet music as well. It saddens me that less and less "musicians" can read music. I guess it makes everyone else that can read look better, though. Great job on the Prelude! Keep up the fantastic work! -Eric Lane

I came across Ariane Cap online completely by accident back in 2017. It transformed my learning and playing. I bought a copy of Music Theory for the Bass Player and learned more in one book than I had learned in 5 years of lessons and self-tuition. Can I humbly suggest that if anyone out there is struggling then you need to look her work up and start using her training materials - I cannot say enough good things about them. This is just my personal opinion so your mileage may vary ,but I only really read 2 bass books now and they are both written by Ari Cap & Wolf Wein. Oh and Ari is one of the nicest people around - very very supportive and knowledgeable

I'm in that video ! And that lesson was fantastic. Always, always learning from each of her lessons- jammed packed. Never ever a dull moment. It takes me a week to really get my chops into it... I re-watch the video, and love the ability of stopping the video to practice in my own time and to really understand the theory behind it. My dreams are in musical notes!

Hi Ariane, I'm Luis, I'm 38yo and just started to learn to play bass, I was a drummer for some years, I love the drums but I'm wanna try something different, I play a few songs, but using tabs, is really fun for me, I love music, and I want my little kid (8yo) Stars yo play too, but drums, sometimes I feel really old to starting with the bass and I get frustrated, but yesterday I ordered your book on Amazon, you have any advice? I really need a few! Jajajaja! You are a really good teacher, I love your videos! And I can't wait to start with the book! I have long days of work but I try to practice a little bit at least every day! But I don't know what to do and just start learning new music with tabs! But probably that's not a good way to learn!!

Hi Luis, thank you for your nice words and it sounds like you have your family band in the making :) !! Welcome to bass world! It is never too late, do not even worry about this. Focus and practice :) When my book arrives, sign up for the videos that come with it. You will also get tips on how to step through the book. And if you want more, we have a beginner course, info is here: arisbassblog.com/courses/beginner-friendly-masterclasses/ Try to do 20 to 30 minutes a day, really focused, following my programs. Happy playing, Luis!

Do you have the right hand fingerings on your tab? I have to double the index finger at one point when I play this pattern, and I'm wondering if that's okay. Thank you!
@LearnBassWithAri
@LearnBassWithAri 2 ай бұрын
no kidding, plucking hand gets a workout, too. I alternate so I usually don't mark i-m or m-i out on the tab. That said, with lines like these you can "reset" at certain points to go more with the grain of the hand. Sounds like you are making a plan and that's half the battle. If you are doubling on index finger ask yourself if you really "have to" or if it's a raking habit. Check out this blog post and try the "Alternator" on the bottom. It is for the plucking hand. arisbassblog.com/right-hand/

There is a song that kicks my butt. It has these riffs that are really fast. I think after watching this video I’m going to play each riff slowly until I get it down. I was starting over and pushing on. And worse I was dumbing down the riff telling myself it still sounds good…The song is “Clyde” by Waylon Jennings

Man, I gotta intentionally practice more. I want to play like this
@xbjrrtc
@xbjrrtc 3 ай бұрын
Legitimately, thanks for "permission" to do this! I also do one per fret UNLESS I'm staying within a three fret box. Or playing octaves. I felt guilty about it because I hate taking shortcuts, but it's better to conserve energy when you can.

Ooh, just learning the concept "pivot permutations"! I stumbled across the pattern/motion when I was learning "Beautiful Stranger", and I've started doing it in improvisation, too. It sounds really good and feels good to play

I need to start assigning scale degrees to riffs! I already think of the key they relate to, but adding the numbers will drive it home

I gotta get back to my patterns practice. I want to play with this level of fluency 🤩🤩
@xbjrrtc

The pattern system is legit. I'm reaching a playing level where I need to internalize the patterns to be more creative. I'm good at going up the fretboard and to higher strings, but less good in the opposite direction. But the pattern system teaches how to start from ANY note on the scale and go in any direction.

You are welcome! Sure. What I mean is this: "You think you heard a D? Check it with the piano if you are right." The piano gives you the reference. You can use any instrument of course, but it's fast as it's built into Transcribe! Hope this helps.
