I have glaucoma also, Tasha. It is so important to have regular eye exams just like one should have regular physical exams! I had no symptoms but my glaucoma was caught during an annual eye exam. I take eye drops every night and will forever I imagine. That's fine by me as long I keep the glaucoma from worsening.

This is getting scary. I've got very prolific retinopathy and the medicine shots and laser surgery is not working. My A1c is now 6.1, but was terribly high for a very long time. I don't know how I'll cope. I am extreme poverty and have been raising 4 kids alone. I was abused all my childhood and have zero contact with any family. My kids dad ended up being more than a monster and he's not in the picture in any way. I survive by making plans for all worst cases... it's like all I have for back up. When you cant turn to your parents or family, then being prepared for anything and having a plan IS your safety and security net. I do have a steady boyfriend now, but these kids need their home to stay stable and unchanged. I have 3 left at home and even the oldest who's moved away still worries me. She's not where I can say she has her feet under her yet. I'm scared.

I am 69years old and live in the tiny island , named Mauritius, Indian Ocean. Often I get redness in my eyes. Through advice of Opthalmologue , I was advice to use Predmet eye drops twice or thruice a day through intervals. The redness vanishes but reappears after one month. This last for nearly 6 months.Recently I visited a n eye specialist , and on doing a scan test he concluded that I had cystoid Macular Edema. And this can be cured by injunctions, which will be twice or thrice. But no guarantee..The actual Opthalmologue are treating me with Soludone 20 MG and 10mg each for 15 days .On 27th , Sept, doctor will check me to know further.I will let you know further .thank you very much for the guidelines

I have lots of drusen in both eyes, but I have recently (this week) been diagnosed with Geographic Atrophy. Thank you for having these videos available - it helps navigate the situation and get more expert information about what this really is. Is there any kind of average prognosis for a timeline? It's really hard to know how much to prepare and how quickly... especially in someone my age. Thank you.

Thank you so much for your comment. Disease progression can be different for everyone, so it's important to monitor your vision on an ongoing basis and work closely with your ophthalmologist. We're glad there are now treatments available for GA. We also have a lot of resources at lowvision.preventblindness.org if and when GA does affect your vision, and there are also a lot of helpful resources at hadley.edu/ - among other programs they facilitate discussion groups and ways to connect with other people with similar experiences.

i have rod/cone dystrophy. diagnosed at 72, now 76. it is getting worse. NO ONE, not even my friends, believes me. i have photophobia, color blindness, and use a white cane too. i cannot see white on white, anything clear, cannot see with a flashlight, outdoors during the day, and pretty much the same as you. i cannot drive, which has ruined my life. i have a live in to drive me around. i have an IPAD PRO, but cannot use my cell phone at all. i stay in my dark bedroom mostly with my two dogs and cat. People just dont understand. i do see certain colors and for some odd reason, Wheel of Fortune is very colorful as well as certain Cartoons and ads on TV. othernthannthat when i watch movies on my IPAD are all black and white. i grew up with black and white TV so i feel i went backwards in time. Now i have a large cataract on one eye and i do notice that the vision is a little worse innthat eye. i will try to access your website since it is late here. thank you for yournvideo.

What you stated is actually the number one cause of blindness in diabetics..although this can still happen even if you are controlling your blood sugar. I was just diagnosed with Diabetic Retinopathy and I'm about to make some big changes in my diet and lifestyle to save my vision. Very scary..but I'm going to do my best and my heart goes out to everyone dealing with this. Diabetes is a monster..and we need to find a cure already.

@@Landis_Grant I wish you the best of luck with that. Please keep me updated. My vision in one eye went a little blurry the day after my blood sugar went to normal from super low carb eating. Scared me badly because it literally happened overnight. My doctors office said if it doesn't get better soon to come in for them to look at it. Keeping my fingers crossed it's just my lens going back to normal after being swollen from high glucose for so long.

Some people lie about how much vision loss they are experiencing to get out of acting like a grown up who has to find their own home and who has to figure out how to start their own family with children too on their own without them getting to dip into their aging mother's resources too whenever they want to. Melissa Taussig isn't one of them. Some people are only affected by their vision loss when trying to drive at night or when they are wearing glasses during cold weather which makes their life a little more difficult than when they were young. Having to wear prescription glasses is such a commplace human experience for people over the age of 40.

Follow a low carb diet. Start at under 100grams a day and go down to 50. If you can try to get your doctor to prescribe you insulin temporarily. Use it for six months. It will help to preserve beta cell function by taking pressure off your pancreas. Metformin will help sensitize your body to insulin. Eat clean and walk. A lot of walking. You don't have to jump into hardcore exercise. Walk a minimum of 3 miles a day. You can reverse type 2.

@@MH-zg5yw I greatly appreciate your response to this. I'm scared also. I've already adopted this lifestyle. Your comment gives me hope as I've always had perfect 20/11 vision until a year ago and now I can't see much without my glasses and it WAS getting worse. Too soon to say as of yet, if my diet and exercise will reverse my loss of sight. I went through a series of traumatic events (strangulation and my fiance passed away) combined with the pandemic and gained a LOT of weight (over 70 pounds). I have an ulcer now with low thyroid hormones and right on the line of prediabetes/diabetes. I've lost 18 pounds since July and am working very hard on myself to get my health back. I also just started taking Ozempic 3 days ago and am on 3 medications for the ulcer. Again, thank you to the original person who posted this comment and to the person who responded!
