I am 74 years old and I am taking pain killers I have been on them for 2 weeks , the doctor said to me if the pills don’t help you will be required to get an X-ray to see how far the bones are gone, and you will have to get a knee operation, this floored me and now I am so frightened to have this done.

I got a total knee replacement two weeks ago. At the 14 day mark, I knew I was back as in I could clean the floors, walk without a walker or cane. I’m not taking pain pills now, there’s a slight discomfort now but every day I’m doing better. The only complaint I’ve got is, after the surgery I totally lost my appetite. In two weeks I’ve lost 17 pounds.

Very informative video, thank you! Could anyone explain why a waterprove mattres is recommended? We feared it would make the matress less breathable.

Good video but obviously using a person fully fit does not show the actual difficulties and pain you encounter attempting the various movements and exercises. I had a right leg THR on 16 August 2024, a reverse hybrid hip replacement whatever that is. I opted for a spinal block anaesthetic so as to remain awake during the op. From having the anaesthetic and op took 1hour 45 mins. I was up using walking frame about 3 hours later. I have been very surprised by the lack of pain resulting from the op. The main brief pain coming when attempting exercises and getting in and out of bed and chairs. I can walk and use stairs with crutches and pain free.

@@Paul-e5h so do you recommend the spinal block?? I rather be asleep though because I haven’t slept in SO long w/my pain.
@Paul-e5h
@Paul-e5h 27 күн бұрын
@dianaryan1686 Hi, I certainly do recommend it. You also get some minor sedation and the op seems to be over quickly and totally painless. The recovery is quicker and you are awake all the time. About 4 hours after the op I was up doing some walking using a frame. I can honestly say that I have suffered no pain at all since having the op, its just like having your own healthy hip. Just remember the do's and do'nts and do your physio and you will be fine. I am now 15 weeks post op and all great.

I had mine replaced a few days ago, ive had spinal fusion before, the recovery from a hip replacement is extremly rough. Getting up and down from bed or shuffling to the correct position in bed is one of the worst pains ive experienced. Walking on crutches little and ofter at present but they said beforehand id have slight pain for 48 hrs i have awful severe pain and a huge leg. The leg hurts more than before surgery at present so i hope it goes away.

@dianaryan1686 I am doing great. The main thing after is to keep walking. I had huge swelling, awful pain for a few weeks, then boom the pain went. Still a bit swollen at the thigh but no pain whatsoever. Only problem I have had twice is because of spinal fusion they class it as a stiff back and I can get a dull ache in the back on the right hand side, same side as hip replaced. Now it is the best decision I have made, no pain, can walk, even run, play snooker and kick a football. Main thing is to just keep moving and walking on crutches after you have it done. It was a hard 2 weeks but after that it got so much better.
