This cover was like a sense of closure for me when Alexi died. Dissection and Children of Bodom have been my top go to bands for years. Blew me away that one of the last songs he recorded was this. It's haunting and the most beautiful thing I've ever heard all at once. R.I.P Alexi R.I.P Jon

Two of my heroes, and two of Finland's finest guitarists. These guys were basically my 80's, 'cos I was born too late for the actual thing. Still gets me going after 20 years, and probably what got me into playing guitar for real. <3

You can seriously tell how much respect he had for this song and I bet it was on his list of things he always wanted to cover for a really long time. The fact that he wanted to do it before he passed is so incredibly moving. God damn.

Extremely appropriate that this was the last song on his last ever record. Jon and Alexi were both amazing composers and guitarists, among the very best in the metal world.

I have to hand him one thing if he wasn't making his Happy sunshine death metal that sounded like puke, he probably had a decent taste in music. The cover here proves it.

So many bands or even musicians last songs before passing are usually covers for some reason. The last Death song (Control Denied but those song were written around the same time) ever recorded was a Judas Priest cover. Alexi was also a huge Schuldiner fanboy and Chuck loved the first COB album.

I can be wrong but I'm pretty sure Dissection had some notable influence on early CoB work. I think Downfall lyrics were strongly influenced by The Somberlain. Two legendary songs, two legendary bands, two legendary front men. Hail Dissection and CoB!
@unclebobboomergames2 жыл бұрын
Its impossible to miss it
@Hubcool367 Жыл бұрын
Definitely not wrong. I was going back to CoB's Lil' Bloodred Riding Hood (that chorus is one of my favorite things CoB ever did) and one of the comments pointed out the chorus riff is taken from Dissection's Night's Blood (near the end) and the verse's riff was taken from Dissection's Unhallowed. Listening to those 2 songs right after the CoB one, it is indeed impossible not to hear it. In fact the only part where you're wrong is where you might be limiting Dissection's influence to early CoB: I think they literally never stopped being a major influence.

The fact that the closing song to Alexis prolific career is a fucking dissection cover. Just finally listened to it and ill admit...I am drunk myself. This cover brought me to tears. Alexi i don't see as like some Uber metal god. But I found the band during AYDY? When I was like 14/15. Alexi radically changed my musical interests at a young age. To hear this brings me so much actual joy. It's literally heartbreaking
@MetalJody19903 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's hard to avoid teary eyes when listening to this. Alexi changed lives with his phenomenal guitar performances and song writing skills. I also found the band during AYDY, close to the same age you were. That album made me want to practice guitar more and more.
@unclebobboomergames3 жыл бұрын
@@MetalJody1990 I never looked at the track list so I wasn't aware of the dissection cover. But its like motorhead. Last song of lemmys last album was a rolling stones cover. Perfection. Represents who lemmy was and where his love was. This feels the same. The perfect send off of one legend big upping another. Respect
