How did they last for you long term? Chinese made batteries tend to drop of a cliff after you charge them multiple times

The ratings for powerowls that are tested for capacity by professional battery testers suggest they do not have the capacity that they advertise. Thanks for sharing your observations, though. BTW, it is not 'milliamps', it's 'milliamphours'.

Are you still impressed with these ? - do you have any affiliation with Amazon ?
@FotogsАй бұрын
I am, and I don't have any affiliate links, paid evaluation or otherwise. I just use the product, in a variety of devices around the house in something as simple as a remote control, flashlights, and in my old film camera the Pentax MZ-S (it has a AA battery grip) I find the batteries last and are usable just the same as a good ol Duracell. just rechargeable. When I tried to use the Panasonic batteries in the same way in regular household items I would find them drained prematurely from just sitting unused these hold a charge unused much better like a regular battery does.

Duracell rechargeable 2550 MA, trust me, in testing they are dead on.. Next, Panasonic Eneloop pro. Most everything out there with higher ratings is just an inflated lie.
@eatanelkbergerАй бұрын
That is true, but if you do a value test, at less than 1/3 the cost, the better deal is with Powerowl or Amazon Basic batteries. I've used these off brands side by side with eneloops and they out perform the name-brand. The off-brands must have a higher mAh rating, to get similar results. You can pick up a 2800 mAh Amazon Basic for about $1 per battery. It's a no-brainer in my opinion.

Apply the latest firmware update to the G9 and the Panasonic lenses, and you will have an incredible value, especially since you can get a used G9 these days at a great price since the G9II came out. I am choosing NOT to upgrade to the G9II because I shoot mostly stills and don't really need dual pixel AF, even when I shoot video. The latest firmware updates have improved the AF speed in this camera. Just to make sure I'm not steering you wrong, I just shot a video of myself walking to and away from my G9 and it looks great. Is dual pixel better for video? Yes, but for occasional video recording the G9 just fine. I can even use it professionally for real estate videos.

If I were you, I'd have gotten it brand new. This is one of my most favorite cameras, everything about it is just amazing. Sure, it has its limitations, but the ergonomics and the dials, and the top LCD-it's just such a joy to hold in your hand! And I still use it professionally today. I think this camera will be remembered for a long time, heck, it's already legendary at this point. And that's why if you can, get it brand new. Future proof it, buy all the accessories you can get while you can still get them; get a whole stock of batteries and chargers, and only use half of them, and save the other half for the future! I've had many cameras up to this point, and I have no doubt I'll have many more. But, in all the years to come, and when I'm old and much, much more nostalgic, this is the camera I hope to be pulling from underneath my bed to have a slow walk with. There are so many great cameras today, in terms of specs and capabilities. But to me, that's the ultimate "camera test." Is it gonna be something you'll want to be buried with? Yes.

The only comment I would make is the body, which certainly isn't small. The lenses, however, are, plus they're cheaper. I just wish the body was smaller.
@Fotogs8 ай бұрын
It's funny I have the similar thoughts on that one too. It's still smaller than my old Canon 5D M3, but larger than my Sony A7R III. But also if if was any smaller, I would loose the incredible feel and grip of the camera which is a major plus in my mind to the overall build of the camera. If smaller is vital to my kit. I end up bringing my Lumix G7. But again I loose what I love about the G9. lol Oh well... Like they say, you can't have it all. (Thanks for adding to the conversation!)

I love my G9. If you haven't used a G9 do NOT underestimate it because of its sensor size. I own an S5. I have owned a 5DIII, 77D and other Canons. I also use the D500 and R7. There are very few situations the G9 can't handle as well as the others. Use good, fast glass and you're set. If you want a real bargain on an excellent camera, find a lightly used G9.

I just did the same! My use case is as a (semi) permamently fixed 'studio' camera behind a teleprompter, for recording tutorials, and I didn't want to commit a GH5 or GH6 to that. I was using a GH4 with a dreaded microHDMI port, and I bought the G9 solely because it has a proper *full size* HDMI out. I found one used for just £250, with a broken LED screen (don't need it - I have a pass through monitor). It was a bit of a knee-jerk purchase, as I knew it would be snappped up at that price, so my research was minimal. It arrived this morning and I am blown away by it, after just 30 minutes of tinkering. I can use my lenses and dummy battery, and for another £45 I can add a grip, which makes battery access easier when the camera is mounted (if ever I need it as a third camera on location). It's my used best purchase of 2023 (so far)!

I love my M43 kit and the lenses I own. When it comes to bokeh, I really dont need THAT much bokeh untill I want to shoot a portrait. But then again, I just pull out my sigma 56mm f1.4 I get more than enough of that beautiful bokeh with that lens. So yeah, you can still get great bokeh on mft with the right lenses. Than there is high iso noise and to be honest, I rarely shoot in low light and the IBIS makes out for it for non moving subjects. Plus its really compact and fun.

My canon 6d mark ii is full frame and same size as g9. My r10 is way smaller and lighter than g9 and still has larger sensor.

Yeah but put a lens with the same equivalent focal length to an Olympus 40-150mm on you canon (like the RF 100-300mm) and you Canon is a hefty package at 3,3 kg. But the G9 still has the comfort of the full frame body size but with a much lighter lens and a combined weight of 1.4 Kg. Not to mention that the G9 package is waaaayyyy cheaper. So you Canon is for shure the more capable camera, but not better for traveling or more cost efficient.

These are all great cameras, have many, many awesome photos and videos, that provide great memories! But, hearing the rumors about, perhaps, a new upgraded G9 II, which would add phase detect auto focus to an already great focusing camera, I might that hard to resist. Plus, I already own many great Leica lens for these cameras. Thanks for the concise, excellent video!

G9 is my favorite camera, well, apart from my old Nikon film cameras. G9, just like those 80's SLR's, just feels right. The GH series went too video specialist and lost that true hybrid nature of the GH1 and GH2. The G9 is a real hybrid in that it is excellent at stills, but still excellent with casual video. When getting serious about video I reach for the GH5 M2, but as an everyday carry around camera, it is G9 all day, every day. I love the top screen, love the feeling in the hand. Really looking forward to the much rumored G9 M2 with PDAF. I will then be in camera heaven if it retains the things that make the G9 so likable. BTW, I have Zeiss classic lenses in Nikon F mount. I am able to use them on my Nikon film cameras as well as on Sony and MFT. I love the Zeiss look, and I get the choice of both the Zeiss and the Leica look on my Lumix cameras. Long live the G9 and the creative choices that camera gives us. As to bokeh, there are just as many scenarios where greater depth of field is required as scenarios where shallower depth of field is desired. MFT (same size as 16mm film) gives me plenty enough blurred backgrounds. Saying that MFT does't give good bokeh just shows the user doesn't know how to get the most out of a camera, and how to make any and all formats shine. They all have a set of advantages as well as disadvantages.

For the last ten years I have been using Full frame Pentax &Panasonic, APSC Pentax & Fujifilm and Olympus and Panasonic for micro 4/3, each one has its unique features and allows me to photograph events , sports, wildlife, landscapes, seascapes and travel photography. For each camera setup I have a wide variety of glass both zooms and prime lenses, most of the time I have a camera with me and I can photograph in a pool at a Resort, waist deep in the ocean or in a creek photographing wildlife, family and pets having fun. When I travel by plane it's a APSC or 4,/3 set up and at times a combination of both, traveling by car, any of the above depending upon what I plan to photograph, having choices is great and allows me to have variety in what I photograph with.

You may not initially notice but that Lumix have the best colour authenticity of any camera brand, and the ability to reproduce pale violet which most other cameras see as pale bluish-white or just white (try bluebells or other such flowers), even Olympus with an identical sensor. So it's not the sensor but the "engine".

I just sold my Canon R5 and assorted lenses(both native RF and some adapted Tamron EF), bought a G9(used), the 10-25/1.7(new), and the 100-400(used). I then put about $3k in the bank from the price difference. Sure, the Canon did better at high iso(anything 6400 and under isn't worth worrying about with modern noise reduction), but in a fraction of the size, weight, and cost, I have a weather-sealed kit that can cover anything I want to shoot and fits in a small shoulder bag(ThinkTank Storyteller 10).

(5:00) M.Zuiko Pro glass are hard to beat, and compare well to any of the Lumix G Leica lenses. The Nocticron vs the M.Zuiko Pro 45mm/1.2 comes to mind. Also, the M.Zuiko 75mm/1.8 is considered to produce the sharpest images out of any µ4/3 lens… As a µ4/3 user myself, I often find it difficult to choose between the M.Zuiko Pros and the Lumix G Leica’s… 🤔

I have many older Olympus lenses for my old OM-1 and still adapt them onto my Sony because they are such fun old lenses to shoot with. And the New Olympus lenses have tempted me many times when I want to add a new lens in my collection. I love the 2 Leica lenses I have and use, but the constant apertures of the Olympus Zooms are nice to have. All my Sony FA mount lenses are constant aperture as well as all the Canon L mount glass I used to own for my 35mm film gear. And for the pro photogs they are a must have item for the most part.

I am primarily a Canon user, R5 and R6 with Canon lenes, but the G9 had its own character, and I really loved it. The only issue I had with it was the focus in the view finder, it was a bit quirky and jumped around a bit, not as stable as the Canon. But as far as image quality, stunning results.
