My interest would get sparked if I heard what this means geometrically. I imagine each of the two matrices is pair of vectors: each column is a 2D vector.

Just what I was looking for, thanks! Thanks for the trick at the end where v_2 and v_3 are free. Does that method work for matrices like this?

When there are two free variables, then yes, this will work well.

I’m sorry but the proof is incomplete. You can’t assume that it converges and then use that to find where it converges. You proved that IF the sequence converges then it converges to 3, not that it actually does converge.
@davidfriday74982 ай бұрын
Correct. It is incomplete, as those in the comments from 3 years ago have let me know. Feel free to contribute toward the proof by showing that the sequence is bounded and monotonic.

You titled your video as elementary row operations but never used a row operation, instead used only column operations...
@davidfriday74982 ай бұрын
A title can only have 100 characters. Changing "row" to "column" puts me at 101 characters. So... pretend I used a transpose?

Good catch! You are correct; the notation should be a_32*C_32, not a_23*C_23. Thankfully, despite the incorrect notation, I grabbed the correct entry and minor in the video.

do we have to always force a fraction or I can use product rule if i want to?
@davidfriday74983 ай бұрын
The Product Rule is a rule for differentiation; L'Hospital's Rule is a rule for evaluating limits. They are not the same and should not be equated any more than L'Hospital's Rule and the Quotient Rule should be equated. Forcing a fraction is necessary.

I'm currently studying Laplace transform and I'm finding it challenging to recall trigonometric identities. Thank you for the amazing video. (Here's a tip: if you have access to a calculator, you can check if your identity is correct by assuming an angle and verifying if it's equal or not.)

Sir i have done this question with different transformation and at the last row in matrix become 0 0 0 l -1 -1 0 Is it correct?
@davidfriday74983 ай бұрын
Technically, that cannot be rref because the last row doesn't start with a positive 1. If you had gotten 0, 0, 0, -1, -1, -1, then we would have the same result as soon as you multiply the third row by -1.
@WEEZEE014 ай бұрын
Thank you sir, but what if you were given one standard basis and one non-standard basis. How do you transition from B'>B and B>B' when B{(1,0) (0,1)} and B'{(1,1) (2,1)}
@davidfriday74983 ай бұрын
You can follow the same procedure as what's in the video. The basis vectors from the "to" basis go on the left, and the basis vectors for the "from" basis go on the right. Rref of the first transition you listed will be super easy since you'll start with rref.
