Thank you for your nice comment. The cost was roughly $150 - $200, which includes corner bead, drywall compound, sliding door hardware, door, gyprock, paint, and other hardware.

I had a problem with my new mower with a 30" blade not picking up mowed grass and leaves. So, I removed the blade, and welded on lift wings. Checked the blade for balance, and finding it perfect, put it back on. Prior to adding the new wings, I had to make 3 passes in order to get all of the debris into the bags. After the modification it clears all debris in one pass. A year, later, after using it all summer and fall I removed the blade to check my welds, and found them looking the same, as when I welded them on. I'm not suggesting just anyone attempt to add wings, like I did, unless he or she is skilled in many welding applications, so they can competently accomplish the desired outcome.

Thank you for your nice comment. Welding wings on your blade is a great idea. Have a Happy New Year!

My experience has been when using cedar or treated deck boards has been to “not” space the boards . When they are spaced you will have wider than normal gap, because of shrinkage. After 4 seasons go back and take a look. This is my opinion after 50 years.
@BasaPeteАй бұрын
Thank you for your comment. I agree, no space between the deck boards.
@etutlf4176Ай бұрын
Excellent video. Did you really have to cut the 3/4 inch spaces to fit in the steps? You could have just nailed the steps (perhaps with longer nails). If you are going to keep the ladder outside, I would definitely stain/paint it.
@BasaPeteАй бұрын
Thank you for your comment. Fitting and bedding the steps gives them more strength and also helps prevent the long 2x4s from twisting.

First of all, thanks for the video. Lots of good info and experience. One comment however, and I am not a structural engineer, if Pete did not trust the short header joist at the outside corner of the house to support the corner of the deck (which he doubled up) 9:54, I think it thereby calls into question the reliance on the two joists that he hung from the corner of the house with those 18ga U-hangers (for which he replaced the fasteners with lag screws for better shear resistance in the connectors). So as he was commenting, a big part of the dead and live load of the deck corner area is depending on those U-hangers themselves. Again, not being a structural engineer, I would say that the design limit of those hangers are exceeded. My guess is that actual strength of the metal hangers and their connections is probably sufficient, and the adjacent framing is helping to compensate but I think 12ga hangers would have been a better choice there, or possibly even another post.
@BasaPeteАй бұрын
Thank you for your nice comment. I had the same thoughts about the those U-hangers. And yes, 12 gauge hangers would have been better. FYI - The following winter, after a heavy snow fall, I inspected the corner and found no problems.

Good job @BasaPete. I watched your entire series for the build of this shed. Your skills are impressive. I did a similar thing as you show in this video, but with a home made roman crane. It was just a bipod with guy ropes and a cheap Harbor Freight block and tackle system, for processing Deer. I didn't get it completely standing on its side but, I think I could have. :)

Would you recommend miter cutting the feet at an angle to give it better grip? I dont plan on fixing this ladder to anything, im gonna be using it to get on my roof and storing when unused
@BasaPete2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your question. Cutting the feet at an angle may help the grip on hard surfaces, such as pavement or concrete. But I would leave the feet square if using the ladder on a soft surface. Square feet will dig in better on soft ground.

Can you explain how you determined the depth of your birds mouth notch? You cut the ends for a 6/12 but hypothetically you could skew the pitch depending on the depth of the birds mouth and I'd like to understand better the formula or math behind determining that cut
@BasaPete3 ай бұрын
Thank you for your question. The depth of the notch is usually 1/4 to 1/2 the thickness of the rafter. As long as you cut the notch and ridge at the same pitch it will not skew the angles. Remember, always keep the length from the notch to the ridge consistent.
